'97 528i Battery Life
Hey there guys, so im thinking of taking my girlfriend to the Drive-in theater in San Jose this weekend. I found out that they give you a radio station to tune your car radio to in order to listen to the movie. I know that playing the radio with the engine off can drain your car battery, so my question is how long will my car battery last while playing the radio? In my case i have a 350W amp that powers 2 12" 800W subwoofers, and the movie i am going to watch is a little over 2 hours i think. Will my car battery last long enough?

How long is a piece of string?
What condition is your battery in? is it a standard car battery? how old is it? do you have an audio grade battery? is the amplifier you have a budget unbranded/cheaply made unit? if so, it'll not have a very efficient power supply so will suck up the current quicker than a high quality amplifier with a much more efficient power supply. Never been to a drive in movie before, do they let you idle the car whilst parked up? why not take a battery booster pack with you? perhaps take a portable radio ? can you tune in your mobile phone is it has an FM radio and use that? Cheers, Dennis! |

I'd have to guess that veco's battery would be dead in an hour.
Use a transistor radio if you want to be able to start the engine after 2 hours or bring a battery booster pack as Dennis has suggested. Or bring some jumper cables.

Why not take her car...or as mentioned, use a portable radio with fresh batteries.

Or just turn the sound off. Noone goes to the drive in to watch the movie anyway.

Hell, save yourself money and just take her to the Walmart parking lot. The entertainment is free, just as good as most action movies, features almost as many primates as the zoo and once the windows are fogged up, just tell her you're at the drive in.

Its a Duralast battery and I would like to say its in a decent condition. Yes. Dont know how old it is because it came with the car when i bought it september of 2011. No. I have a kenwood amplifier, dont know if its a low quality brand or not. Dont know but i beleive that they should let you as long as your car isnt super loud. I dont have one of those ![]() I was honestly thinking of that too, but if i can use my cars sound system it would sound way better thanks to the subs tweeters and mids ![]() And yes it can. Hope i answered all ur questions. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Bimmer App |
