2001 BMW 325ic - Convertible Top Problems

My convertible top started malfunctioning a few weeks ago. First, when the top was going up, it would stop just before making contact with the latch (about 6 inches from completely the function). Then, it started to stop about half way up, and now the top stops about quarter of the way up.

Is there a relay switch or any other electrical issue I can check myself. Thanks

There are wires that run front-to-back (or back-to-front) along the sides of the soft top that will fray/break from putting the top up and down. I've had this happen twice (symptoms same as yours) and it was an inexpensive fix by my BMW mechanic. Could be that but you should take it to a mechanic to check it out.

Mein Auto: 2001 BMW 325cic
I have a 2001 BMW 325ci convertible that I recently purchased. I had the top down a couple of days ago and all of a sudden it started to rain. Just sprinkling. When this happened I was in a long line at a red light. I held the button in to raise the top and had it about 3/4 up when the line started to move. I continued to hold the button and proceed in line. Well apparently wrong move the top did not close. After pulling over and messing with it for a min I was able to get the top to close and lock in, however the light is now just flashing all the time. Almost like the car doesnt think it is completely closed which it is. Any ideas on a fix to this issue? Thanka for any help.

I want to assist you in a chronological order .
1. Try to rise the roof just half way
2. Support the roof with a short 2 by 4 wood. Make sure you cover the paint surface from scratch .
3. On the left of the convertible top, carefully pull the side cover and you will see a bundle of wires.
4. Remove the wire support with tox tools.
5. You will see mash cover black wire.
6. Cut a small round piece from the mash, then pull the mash out of your way.
7. At the bend of the convertible, you will find some broken wires.
8. Go to your local radio shack to purchase a 18 gauge wire and soldiering tools.
9. Cut the broken wire, replace with new wire and soldier the two wires together. Remember to
Cover the Wires with electrical tape.
10. Reinstall the mash cover and the screws to the side panel. Your top is ready for operation.
