Yeah I have a S&W aftermarket security device (and Permit THANK YOU SECOND AMENDMENT!!!!!!) in my glove box to handle those types of situations. Can you imagine the car jacker's face when he limps away leaving a yellow and brown trail of cowardice behind. Joking aside when I had my mini cooper i was almost car jacked at a red light and made the choice to stomp on the gas and blow the light after that it was time for a security upgrade for my ride.

Haha. I did it and it feels weird looking up on your backup camera.

The three series also has the "tivo" rewind on the sat radio as of MY2010 and the parked car ventilation.

I am having trouble finding the 12V power outlet. Can someone help me locate it?

Thanks.

If you look at the passenger footwell, below the glove box, there is a light. The outlet is next to the front-left corner of the light fixture.

I hope this helps.

BMW has had the parked car ventilation for years. I have it on my 01 540i. Also #11 comes standard on all BMW models.

All these are not new, but they are not necessarily on all e60s. The feature of gear automatically shifting into P when engine turns off, for example, only becomes available with the 08 LCI model, which is equipped with the electronic shifter.

Surprisingly, even when most of these things are not new, or exclusive of the F10, there are many owners out there that at least some of them are news. That was the goal of this post, to make most F10 owners aware of some of the cool things available on their car.

Quite right!

Except, it's making me want a F10 more now...

Another really cool, unheralded feature is the mini glove box to the left of the steering wheel. It is one third the size of the regular glove box in front of the passenger's seat. It is great for sun glasses, tollway transponder, Blackberry, etc.

With a BMW, unlike most cars, it is absolutely essential to RTFM if you want to use all the features to the max. Many of the features cited here have been in Bimmers for years.

One more fun fact: the courtesy lights come on when you tap the alarm button on your key.

one of the things i loved about my 335i was that when you unlocked the car using the remote, the ambient lighting around the car would light up at night. at a dark outdoor parking lot, it looked amazing with sort of a glow around my alpine white car

one cool feature if you can call it that IMO is the fob holder between the two cup holders up front. If my CA didn't put the key there while showing me some of the features of the car when i first got it i would never know what that spot was for.

No backup camera on my 2006 530xi, so I can't see the sky if I try to back up with the trunk open (not sure why you would do that anyway.,,,). I guess we are missing that!

Standard. It has been on the 5's for quite a while now. My 2006 530xi has that.

Actually a lot of features are from way back models. BMW never advertised them.
I use to have 2 program schedules for parked ventilation on my E34 1994 530i. And not only that.
On the E34 the boot will pop at the press of the button, the one near the engine hood opener (yes they are in the same place since a long time).
Had to enter a 4 digit code so you can start the engine, as seen in "Transporter 2", a 2005 movie. Only it was an Audi... you know... the "never follow" company at that time
Even more... some of the electronics were first to start in E31 8 series cars. Those models were IMO the "in car electronics" trend starters. In E31 there was an option so the car will close the sunroof and windows when driving past the 160km mark, so it will save gas.
I don't have photos of any earlier BMW but from the 94 530. Isn't it nice to see all controls and overall look is still the same ?!!! The orange color I remember, it was in the E28 also.

don't have this on the manual transmission. they took out the cup holders to make room for the throw of the stick.

my fingertouch lock won't work unless the fob is outside the car when it is touched. Its pretty specific as my son can't touch the rear driverside door sensor and open the car when the key is in my pocket near the front door.

This one trick is standard on a lot of lux cars but I think is pretty cool - if you hold down the unlock for about 5-8 seconds all of the windows and sunroof open. If you hold the fingersensor to lock the car and hold they close.

+1

also i found this accidentally one day where if the fob is left in the trunk and I press the button to close the trunk (on the trunk door) the trunk closes halfway down then opens back up and beeps at you. I have both CA and Powerlift Trunk.

They convert the coin holder/ashtray behind the i-drive control to a demi-cupholder and there is another inside the armrest compartment. So you can have a can of coke but it impedes the use of the idrive, or you only have half an armrest. Not ideal, but it hasn't bothered me too much.

i noticed one of the inner headlamps glow as the steering wheel is turned. this is new to me though.

By the way, i also noticed that there are shutters behind the kidney grill. what is that for, and how does it operate?
