Satellite Radio Coded by BimmerTech
I've wanted to get satellite radio activated on my 2010 X5 since I bought it about a year ago. When I did research on this forum and the Internet, I found it interesting that the BMW dealerships where all over the place on the pricing and their ability to code this feature. When I went to my local dealer, I found the same thing, their estimate wasn't even close and when I questioned them on how they came up with the estimate, it sounded like they really didn't know what they were talking about.
I had read about BimmerTech on this forum and decided to look into them doing the coding. They have the satellite radio option priced up on their website. I emailed Patryk and asked him about the logistics and I was satisfied with his answer. If it weren't for the positive things I read on this forum, I don't think I would have gone through with this (they are not located inside the US). But I rationalized that if they were not reputable or if they had done anybody wrong, it would be all over this forum. They did the coding over the Internet in about 20 minutes, I called and activated it with Sirius Xm and it was working about a half hour later. Patryk and Men were awesome, they really know what they're doing and their service was really good. On top of it all, Sirius Xm gives a free year of service when you activate the radio. Just thought I'd share if anybody was considering this. Mike |

How do they code over the Internet?

My Laptop computer in the car connected wirelessly to my Wifi network, they provide the cable for the connection from the computer to the car and a couple files that need to be loaded on the laptop. They establish a session to the laptop and do the coding.

Yes, I did get a free year satellite radio from Sirius Xm, that appears to come with the first activation of the radio. The coding was $284, that information is on Bimmertech's website.

Dealer price?
By the way, the dealer quote was just under $700 for the coding.

MikeM X5 - same experience here. Men coded my radio in about 20 minutes over the internet. Just had to have OBD cable they sent me and my laptop. He guided me through process on Skype chat. Plus, he updated my navigation maps from Europe to US for no charge. Awesome! Highly recommend www.Bimmer-Tech.net.

The price in USD is based on Euro/USD exchange rate, so it's fluctuating.
Anyway, our price is still MUCH cheaper than any BMW dealership price. It's all OEM and includes free one year subscription

Bimmer-tech.net did my satellite radio retrofit with no problems. The process is as described in previous posts. Highly recommended.

If I decipher it correctly, they get FSC codes cheaply via sources in Eastern Europe (one may guess how, but the cost is probably around $100) - and the rest is changing vehicle configuration with coding, something you can find instructions on Internet and DIY. Obviously, you need cable and be brave and thorough, so the latter is ~$200 that you pay to these guys.
