Steering Wheel Electrical Switch?

I have a 2001 X5 that I purchased used last year. I was so in love with it that I overlooked the obvious issue of the horn, cruise control and steering wheel radio controls not working. Is there an easy fix to this? I thought there might be an electrical switch in the steering wheel that I could replace myself. My husband is very handy and replaced the battery when it died after one month of use! So I thought maybe there would be an equally easy fix for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
