Z4 Driver side door mirror smashed

Hi,
The driver side door mirror fell off my Z4 while driving. The mirror had not been hit so I can only guess that the glue failed. I have purchased a new mirror glass. Has anyone removed an old door mirror backing ? It looks like you need to pull the old mirror backing off. Would appreciate any advice.
Thanks
E

Post Escaping passenger mirror // Z4...

The exact same thing happened to the passenger side mirror of my 2006 Z4 just last weekend... popped off while driving down the highway!! Odd... I called my local dealer (a 2 hour drive away) and a replacement is 220$ COST to the local glass company who said they would install it. Yikes!!
Anyone have a line on a better price, anywhere? I live in Canada but would order from wherever i could get one for a more reasonable price...

new mirror

Hi,

I bought a new mirror glass from ebay, cost about 20 and just used some strong glue to fix it. All been fine since. Just glue the new glass to the old backing and your heated mirror function should still work. BMW in the UK wanted nearly 200 to complete this piece of work.

good luck
