Question possible to swap non-premium wheels (X5 diesel)

Hi folks,

Just ordered a 2012 X5 diesel for my wife with the standard non-sport 18" wheels, but she doesn't like the standard Style 209 wheels below.

She *MUCH* prefers the style 210 18" wheels which come standard on the 50i.

My questions are:

- is there any way to substitute the style 210 wheels during production of our X5 35d in place of the 209's? They're both 18", and both standard style BMW OEM wheels. Heck I think even the tire sizes are the same. The CA at my dealership said no and the only options are to select the sport package (don't want) or one of the premium wheel options (don't want either - are all massive 21-inchers). Just want the style 210 18-inchers.

- if no way to substitute during production, I might go ahead and buy a set of the 210's. Seriously considering owning after lease, but if we decide to return it would there be any issue with returning the vehicle with the Style 210 wheels rather than the 209's? I don't really have a place to store an extra set of rims and would rather just sell them if we decide to swap.

Thanks!

I also had a "special request" on a potential custom build, but see Adrian's post (#8):

I also just ordered and had a similar dilemma prior. In the end I got the SAV package which adds 19" wheels that look much nicer than the standard 18" ones. I had no interest in 20" or greater. The SAV package (on the D) includes anthracite headliner, sports steering wheel, and the 19" wheels. I didn't want the first two add-ons, but I really wanted the wheels. The cost of this package was $900 which is MUCH cheaper than buying a set of wheels for $4K, so I opted for the former.

Oh okay, thanks! So this would be considered a special request, and at this time on the X5 they're not accepting special requests. Got it.

So then the question is, if I decide to swap out the 209's for 210's, can I return the vehicle at lease end if we decide to turn it in with the 210's on it? I'm thinking they might not even notice, especially since they're a very similar BMW OEM wheel style.

From what I've been told, it shouldn't matter, as long as it's BMW OEM wheels that are within spec for the vehicle.

Since when is SAP $900? It's $2,200 + $900 for the 20" wheels.

Hah....yes, that. Still less than the $4-$5 for wheels only.

Your lease agreement would probably disagree with whoever told you that. I don't have a copy of the most current revision,
but the contract language has always stipulated "original equipment" verbatim in the past. In other words, the vehicle
should be returned with whatever was installed at the factory -- unless the replacements were figured into the original
lease agreement and supported by repair orders by selling dealer.

I'll have to read a current contract to see what the express language is in 2012.
