Going to Vegas from Cali

I am going take my 535 msport. There are some stretches of road where you can really go fast. How fast would be too fast?

I picked my 535 up last yr in OC and drove back to Vegas at night. I was hitting around 110-120 no problem. Very long stretches of highway once your out of the valley until you start hitting the hills past Baker. The only thing you have to worry about is CHP and NHP!

Make sure your tire pressures are good.

The car will comfortably run all day at 125 mph without an issue. However, make sure you have a Passport or Valentine radar detector and keep your eyes open for patrol.

If you get caught at that speed, you will be bonding yourself out of jail in some town you would rather not be.

Hope you don't get a flat. Otherwise you get to stay at the Barstow Super 8 for a few nights until a tire is shipped out from civilization.

My 535i reportedly ran comfortably at 140 mph on the autobahn ..... can't confirm this .....

Did some fast running out West in a rental car ..... rock chips on the windshield were severe

Too many CHPs on that stretch of road to play like that. I'm in LA and have a house in Vegas and regularly make the run in my 535i M Sport. EVERY time I travel, I'm locked in cruise control at 80. I get blown off the road by tricked-out Hondas going 95+ and in a mile or two, I usually see them along side the road with a CHP cruiser behind him, lights flashing.

I always think of what going 95 will cost him. Not worth it to me with the fine, points and increased insurance costs.

Its a very heavily patrolled area. I have a "friend" who has done 120 in this car without even breaking a sweat. Sport and MSport models are speed limited to 155 and I'm sure it could do that, but it's not a good idea in this country. That same friend has gone 140 mph on the same streach of highway and said the only thing that scared him was the wind noise, the rest of the car felt solid.
