Question regarding dealer in Washington DC Metropolitan Area

Hi Bimmerfest Users,

I just had a question regarding the best dealer in terms of Pricing with the new 2012 328i. Has anyone bought any new F-30's here in DC Area and if yes then could you please share your experience.

Thanks in Advance !

I have no purchase experience with the 3 Series but, in terms of area dealers, my preference is Passport BMW for sales as well as service.

I have to second that, I got the 4.8i X5 from them. Great dealership, and service. As for the price i didn't get the best deal possible however so be aware of the numbers.

Rockville BMW is pretty great! They took over what used to be VOB and have improved dramatically. Service is quick and high quality, last time I went in I got a 335d loaner, that was fun!

My advice, even with passport and tischer (now bmw silver spring) go armed with:

1. Truecar
2. Offers from other SA's in email form (passport will do this I believe)

Let them know how quick you're willing to place an order/buy of the lot and that should warrant a better deal.

its hard to find a good deal around here

if you know what you want just email a few forum sponsors http://garage.bimmerfest.com/siteSponsor.php with your offer.

Op if you want a BMW rockville advisor too look into pricing I'll give you a name... A few of their reps are a bit on the snooty side for no reason.

1. truecar
2. email some dealers
3. Ask a board sponsor
4. Ask a local for a SA
5. Get a sweet car and let me borrow it

I will have to agree with this, I have bought two cars myself and a third car for my daughter, always the price has been excellent and so has the buying experience. PM me and I will give you the name of my CA if interested.

VOB versus BMW of Rockville

Have you purchased a new BMW from them since the change of ownership? We bought our '11 X3 there last June, when it was still VOB, and I liked that they did not add processing fees nor did they add unwanted extras. I also liked our CA.

I stopped by there a month or two ago to test drive a new 335i. While I was strolling around the showroom, the price stickers seemed to have had a lot of extras added that VOB did not do.

Thanks
Bruce

Yes, they've added a few fee's onto the sale. I'm ballparking, but I think $550 (I can't remember ). Our 550x had none cause it was still VOB.

Thank you.

Can anyone comment on whether Passport adds extras and charges paperwork handling fees?

I know what counts is the bottom line, what you actually have to pay independent of how they get to that price, but the idea of unwanted extras and unusually high processing fees is not to my liking. I don't mind, however, paying a reasonable fee for handling the paperwork.

My current car has a recall and I scheduled the work to be done at Passport as a catalyst to meet them. Going there next Wednesday morning, have not been there before.

Thanks
Bruce

Mein Auto: waiting for the M4!
I have yet to find a dealer here I like. I would much prefer Ticher/Silver Sping over Passport. I have never had a good sales or service experience with Passport and refuse to go back. We purchased my wife's 128 from VOB is it was fairly painless.

Yes they will. When we shopped for our 550 we got the best price from passport on a non order model, but with the 500-1200 (again total ball parking), but you will get hit with fees.

Thankyou All for your replies. I am planning to buy 2013 F-30 and this definitely helps.

I have another question: is it a good idea to order what u want and then negotiate for a price with a dealer or negotiation has more room when it comes to the pre-configured Car they already have up for sale.

Thanks Again..

I don't think there are that many 2013 pre-configured up for sale at many of the dealers. Usually this happens when an order was placed and delivered but refused by the customer. You may find some 2012s though. Either way dealers tend to budge less on brand new 2013 models. Having said that I think its best to negotiate a price based on the build that you want from several dealerships and then choose the dealer that offers you the best price. I did the same and got 5 quotes from different dealerships and chose the one that offered me the best price. You have more advantage when dealerships fight over each other for your business.

Thanks for the info. Do you mind PMing me the price you ended up paying for your F-30 with packages and options installed?

Here is a bench mark on what I was able to get. I contacted Passport, Silver Spring and Alexandria BMW dealerships via USAA "special discounts". I really did not notice any special offers under this program for a 2012 328i. It was pretty much MSRP and full option costs and the usual separate fees. I waited till I went overseas and checked the US/Military dealers there near US installations. I endedup with pentagoncarsales.com, but there are a few others.
I am on a limited budget so I only got the stock car ($30800, check the website), alpine white, non leather beige, moonroof, rear camera and park assist for $33000 plus $895 delivery and 6% Md tax. Unfortunately you have to have some form of government connection, either as a diplomat, DOD civilian and or military. I am not sure if DOD contractors count.
And you can't sell the car for 4 months after getting it.
the car was ordered on 4/4/2012, built on May 9th, received on 16 June at a local dealer.
I am very satisfied with what I got price wise even though I was in the market for a 3 series diesel. It is my first BMW.

I ordered a new F30 335i this winter from VOB, now Rockville BMW, and got it for $500 over invoice. No haggling, no extra fees. I was blown away! I'd ordered 3 cars previously through VOB and had never got that great a deal. Not sure if I got the great deal because of the changeover. I ordered from VOB, but accepted delivery from Rockville BMW after the changeover. VOB service had Enterprise for loaners, now Rockville has BMW loaners. It seems like they've improved much. Haven't had service there yet, but just got a recall notice on my new 335i and will be taking it in soon.

Way better to build it how you want it, know the exact price from bmwconfig/truecar and work from there. Then if you decide to take a lot one you know you have even more room to work with.

Problem with the headrest. From the recall notice, the headrest apparently doesn't meet crash requirements if it's fully extended. I'm short and don't fully extend it, so it's not a problem for me, but I will be taking it in.

I was also wondering..if its worth to go for a BMW Drive for USA event? as after all this negotiation we do with a dealer (Like only $500 more on Invoice) ..will a dealership honor a discount of $1000 on top of all that ??

I don't believe this has anything to do with the dealership, its a BMW discount.
