Multiple Light failure alerts
Hi I am getting multiple light failure alerts on my E70, including license plate light forward right indicator, park lights etc often about 5 or,6 messages and all lights are working correctly. The errors comes as soon as the car is started, start it up and I get bombarded with messages.
Weird. Any ideas? |

Ideas? Yes, tell is if you have a warranty... How old is your car...maintenance? Battery age????
Given the total lack of info, I will guess your battery is failing.

It is a 2008 Executive E70 X5 that I have just bought second hand so I don't have much background. Thanks.

Warranty or not? (Even second hand, you should still be able to figure this out...) Battery? Open the boot. look at the top of the battery, figure out the age. if it is original you should ABSOLUTELY just replace it with a high quality (non-BMW dealer) replacement. (I make this recommendation based on the fact that newer BMWs do stupid things as the battery starts to fail- odds are you will need a new battery in the next year ANYWAY, so by you doing a replacement for AU$100-150, you will save the whole 'dealer/diagnostic raping'...even if it doesn't fix it, at least you have a new battery.) Look, it's your car, you have it in your physical possession...unless YOU do some work, you will wind up going to the dealer and dropping $1000+ on diagnostics, battery, labor, programming. GL A

No warranty on my 2008 BMW. Battery has a date of 1/2010 on it.
I jumpered another battery to the car, left it for a bit to I also disconnected the battery and cleaned and reinstalled. No joy, the group of light messages. Occasionally I get a Gear lever error as well. It could still be the battery but it would seem not. |

Interesting. No history...and already a battery replaced after 2 years (2010 battery on a 2008 car)?? Hmmm...
Wonder if this car had a history of issues with discharge and electrical stuff.... If you do a search, you will find some history of cars with various discharge issues that result in strange stuff. Essentially modules come on when they should stay asleep, which drains the battery- over time the battery eventually fails and you get all kinds of warnings. You need a BMW dealer who can go through a very detailed TSB on diagnosing discharge issues.... Another issue has been water leakage into electronics causing issues...sunroof drain tubes blocked. Do a search for this as well. My 2 cents A

Similar but separate question on potential battery drain when car is parked and off. (i park in the garage at home)
Is it better to lock and arm the car, or leave car unlocked? Any thoughts?
