Clean your MAF

Cleaned it yesterday; noticeable improvement with low rpm response and off idle smoothness in acceleration.

Open hood

Remove plastic cover protecting MAF harness

Remove 2x torx screws for MAF

unplug MAF harness

Hold over paper towel on workbench, spray with MAF cleaner

Use q-tip or MAF cleaner soaked paper towel to gently clean exposed wire sensor

Reinstall

Enjoy

+1 I noticed improvements when I cleaned mine as well. Instructions above are for the facelift MAF. Prefacelift would be different.

I've been wanting to do this. I got a check engine code that says bank 1 sensor 2 02 sensor failure due to failed MAF. But im getting no MAF code saying its not working. What type of cleaner did you use?

I don't recall the brand but the chemicals in the cleaner are specific to the makeup of these sensors...however any auto parts store should carry it on the shelf, it's literally labeled MAF sensor/cleaner right on the can.

Mass Air Flow Sensor. MAF's are always after the airfilter and before the air intake.

I actually have two MAFs. I bought one when I was troubleshooting an issue and never bothered to try to sell it. So I just switch them around . I also have an extra throttle body. If I was smart I would sell them. Can probably get $400-500 for both.

Im in the same boat bought a spare MAF when I was troubleshooting so issues and never got around to selling it.

Nice, at what miles? Mine is running fine at 50K or so I think. Brother just took his Yukon to Autozone and the CEL code came up MAF and they recommended the exact same procedure with the cleaner.

Next step get some MAF Cleaner from Autozone or PepBoys, you can use other electric cleaners, but why when there is one designed specifically for this.

Take the can of MAF cleaner and spray all over the MAF up until the rubber gasket, make sure to not spray on the connector.

Take a que tip, and very CAREFULLY clean along the metal piece of the sensor.

After you are done give it some time to dry and reinstall. On the can of MAF cleaner it says dries instantly, but you really should give it at least 10-15 minutes to dry to be safe.

+1. They should really sell a smaller bottle of MAF cleaner though. I have enough to clean this thing 100 times.

You can use the MAF senor cleaner for other things such as an electrical contact cleaner or even for the throttle body.

Yeah, I thought of that too. It appears to be mostly compressed alcohol solution.

MAF 2007 BMW 750Li

I just cleaned the MAF, after changing the spark plugs with laser NGK's and both filters.
The car did not start first time, the computers where adjusting.Second time started great and the RPM went up and down then evened out. The engine was running VERY SMOOTH. I will be driving My 2007 750Li BMW in the am in the AM.
Hope it will run smooth and efficient. The picks helped, Thank You.
I sprayed a lot of the MAF cleaner, and gently used a q-tip to clean the small wire in the pick
