2012 X5 50i Dinan Stage 2

Hi,

Looking at Stage 2 for my car. Read it is available, but not listed on the Dinan site. Does anyone know the difference between the Stage I and Stage II? Also, does anyone have it "installed" on their X5?

I don't know if you are speaking about the diesel as I always can agree with more zip in the pedal. I just traded my 2011 X5 for a 2012 X5 after two years of ownership and the time will fly by. All the money spent on mods must work for folks that plan on having their units for many years as to get their money's worth on the changes they make.
This is my question: What does it to resale value with engine mods? I don't think I would want a used X5 that has been chipped or is it just me? What would the dealer say at trade in time? I cannot imagine someone spending the money on a lease unit or someone who flips them every three or four years. Not being negative just curious.

Some people here have had it done. My dealer says it isn't available yet. As for gains, it would be the same as on the 550i, which is a 6 hp gain over stage 1. Not a lot, but it is supposed to improve turbo spool up off the line. On my stage 1 there is a slight lag before boost hits, so I'd imagine they worked this out.

Stay tuned, there is a stage 3, 4, and 5 on the way. Prototypes of stage 5 on the 550i are supposedly making 560 hp and 600 ft lbs of torque.m

Had stage 2 done on my 2012 X5 50i just over a week ago (had stage 1 done when I took delivery of it new in Dec 2011). As you would expect there isn't as significant a difference as going from stock to Stage 1 but it is noticeable. There is a definite improvement in turbo lag over Stage 1, especially off the line. Power distribution is slightly different too. I'm happy with it!

Dinan although not affiliated with BMW in any way will match the manufactures warranty that BMW will not cover due to this install.

It can be removed prior to selling or lease return.. But wow..you only keep cars for 2 years at a time and you purchase?

I always find this type of comment interesting. Perhaps I'm missing something but if you have the money to buy a car (and don't need to finance) does leasing still make sense in this type of scenario?

BMW shouldn't be using residuals that are higher then what a trade-in would be right?

When you lease you are definitely paying finance charges, and there are lease inception charges etc right?

I attempted to spreadsheet this out when I bought mine in December, but I didn't understand leasing enough to calc the finance charges.

This time I did. I never put a penny towards maintenance 2011 including tires (33000 mi) for those two years. Paid cash, And I was going to buy tires, windshield, and fog light and then noticed the BMW promotion for the diesel and ended up paying $15,000 total for a 2012 just like it plus it come with more features. Do you have a better way you can tell me about?

I have my stage 2 set-up for this Thursday, I'll post a couple days after the change.

Got it done yesterday morning - great experience, amazing how fast I can spend $3,800 (took about 45 minutes). I could tell a difference immediately. The owner told me it would take about 200 miles before the car "learned" my style and drive it hard for those 200 miles.

Good for you and really hope it is everything you thought it would be. I like to see folks step out there and go for it. Enjoy and tell us about it after you throw some miles down.

You paid 15K in addition to what amount that you paid on the the lease bringing the grand total to what?

I just dinan stage 2'd my e70 X5 50i m sport today. 495hp and 573lb/tq. Yes, it grabs the gas, but so worth the power, it is insane. My wife's 2010 M5 V10 was side by side during our 0-60 test granted she doesn't know how to get off the line as well as i do. After 70mph, her V10 and sleeker body design beat me, but still. I ran a 13.88 in cold weather the other day for my 1/4 mile. Whether you get the 35 or 50i, look into the DINAN upgrades. I'd rather be filling up every 6 days but be able to have this insane power when i want. If i drive it economically, i still get 20mpg easily.

...by the way, mine is a 2013, so I don't know why dinans website says its only for 2011 and 2012 models.

I have a 2012 X5 with the stage 2. According to Dinan I have 501 HP/580 FT-LBS. If you have a stage 2, I assume you have the same power. Have you had your X on a dyno?

Well its obvious that Dinan's website has not been updated to include the 2013 cars..
Or since 2014 will come on soon, they decided to just update it when it is released.

Hey Guys,

Just got back from the track where i ran my 2013 Dinan Stage 2 X5. There are only 3000 miles on it and i had the DINAN installed @ 800 miles. I had a half tank of 91 octane gas with an outside temp of 63 degrees. Track is only at 170 feet from sea level. I'm running on wide ass run flats (285/40/21 in front and 325/35/21 in rear). I took off the line at 2200-2400 rpm (i was more focused on the lights to get a good reaction time). Here are my times.

60 foot = 1.95 sec
1/16th mile (330ft) = 5.63 sec
1/8th mile (660 foot) = 8.62 sec @ 82.4 mph
1000ft = 11.17
1/4 mile = 13.37 @ 104.4 mph

The Xdrive really kept the grip at 2200rpm, so i probably could have had a little faster time. I did 6 runs and they were all within .08 of each other, so this is pretty accurate. Maybe in perfect cold conditions on an empty tank and a stellar driver, this car could run a 12.9, but not much faster than that. I wish i would have raced it before the DINAN upgrades to see the difference. I'll hit the track again when colder temps come to the SF Bay Area
