135i winter tires new to forum

Hi all. I'm leasing a 2012 135i. I own a set of continental 235 45 17 snow tires from a past 5 series bmw. They are like new. many of the posts I read mention the use of 17 inch snow tires and wheels. My car comes stock with 18 inch wheels. The dealer says I can't use the snows I own ( I figured it's Cheaper to by rims then tires and swap them myself every season) is it the size of the tire they are saying no to, or do 17in rims not fit on this 2012 car. Thanks for your help can't seem to get the answer I need. Carl

As Tire ack recommends either a 205/50R17 or 215/45R17 winter tire for the 135i, your 5 series tires appear to be too big.

I use the standard V-Styling 141 with 4 x 205/50 R17 as my winter setup

Price was 1.400 EUR including rims and wheels in Germany

I use 205/50 R17's - Michelin X-Ice XI2's - they are quite all right (my only winter set so far, so no basis for a comparison), and are tuned for ice (think slick city intersections) rather than soft snow (Blizzaks are better).

Picked up some used ET40 offset rims from an E46 3 Series (I posted pictures earlier). They fit fine, and I only paid about $300 total for 4 rims, while maintaining the BMW look.

I'm also leasing a 2012 135...mine came with 18" wheels with summer performance tires. I had a set of 18" winter wheels from my former Pontiac G8 GXP similar in size to your 5 series wheels, but they were too big to use on the 135. I just ordered a set of 17" winter wheels for my car. While 18" may look better, the added sidewall height should provide a more comfortable ride (esp since they are non-runflats vs stock) and a bit more margin for dealing with potholes and snow covered debris in winter. My setup is the following:

17x7 Anthracite Painted Borbet LV5 Wheels 4 x $162.00 = $648.00
205/50R17 General Altimax Arctic 4 x $114.00 = $456.00
433MHz Tire Pressure Sensor 4 x $45.00 = $180.00
REQUIRED VALVES 4 x $8.00 = $32.00

My former snow tires were Blizzak LM 25's. They were OK but other Blizzak models seem to offer greater grip and from what I've read the Generals should too.

17x7.5" wheels with a 44mm offset and 225/45-17 winter tyres work fine with plenty of clearance on our 135i, no rubbing in any circumstance. A 235/45-17 tyre should fit with the correct offset wheel (likely about 47mm), but I would try any see if you could test fit one wheel and tyre before committing to purchase of the wheels.

Hi, I'm new here and have a question I have a 2011 135i , sport package with 18" wheels. I want to put on factory BMW 17" wheels from a 2011 1 series. The wheels are 17x 7.5 , with 47mm offset all around. I will be using non- run flats. So here's my concern. The car now has 18x 8.5 52mm offset rear and 18x 7.5 49mm offset front. What is the deal with the offset?? Will the new 17x 7.5 with 47mm offset look funky? stick out too far? not far enough? HELP!!!

vicrichard - the wheels your looking at vs your original wheels the fronts will sit in ruffly the same spot (2mm difference) the rears will be sunken in about 8mm more that before.
