03 Z4 crooked steering wheel???

If you hold your steering wheel at the 9:00 and 3:00 position my left hand is closer to the dash than my right by about 1/2 in. Is this normal? PS. I just purchased this car before Christmas it has 38k no accidents according to carfax. It does pull to the right so by spring when I take it out of storage I'll have a 4 wheel allingment done.

I have looked at many many Z4's and they are all this way. Very irritating that BMW would build a car with a crooked wheel... I would be curious if there was a fix. The new Z4's do not exhibit this.

Very interesting and thanks for your info. Iv'e been in only a couple of Z4's both '03s and did not notice this until I bought one. If anyone has any further comments or info on this I would appreciate it very much thank you.

Many cars (and the majority of small cars) don't have the steering wheel perpendicular to the centreline of the seat. It is all a function of packaging, the relationship between the wheel-well, transmission tunnel and components in the engine compartment determine the alignment of the steering column shaft. In a small (narrow) car it is generally impossible to find a position that allows the steering column to be perfectly aligned with the centreline of the seat, especially if wide front tyres dictate a large wheel well for the size of the car

I've not noticed this in any car that is mid-sized and above, but have noticed it in many cars that are smaller than mid-sized.

Have you measured your arms? Perhaps your left is a little longer than your right, thus equalizing things.

+1, I LOL'd.

I wonder if the right hand drive models have the same issue?

I haven't noticed this on my 06, but my eyes are usually busy scanning for cop cars and openings in traffic.

I had a 2006 Z4 and I believe my 2006 also had a crooked steering wheel. I had totally forgotten it until just recently when I picked up a 1998 Z3. My Z3 also has a crooked steering wheel. It does not effect the driving, I cannot even feel the difference, but when sitting in the drivers seat you can see it.
