Are you using your iPod's white cable to connect it to the USB port in your 7? If so, then select your iPod from the multimedia screen in your iDrive system and that should do it.

I have the integrated IPOD option so I just plug it into the cord that is in the center console. I can play the IPOD just fine....title, etc. all show up......but no album cover.

Hmm...have you tried synching your iPod with iTunes to make sure you have the latest iPod software? On your iDrive, when you go into the selection for multimedia it should take you to a screen where the USB connection is displayed and highlighted...make sure the USB connection is highlighted and that you've "checked" it.

Mine works. November build. Sep onwards had combox and apple only cable required for iPod. Maybe that's it?

Where can I find the manufacturer date of my car? I will look and report back...it is indeed a 2011.

Looks like it's only on September or October and after 2010 build dates and is not retrofittable.....seriously. Nothing in this damn car is retrofittable.....it's a joke.

It doesn't work on my 2011 either. Have you confirmed this with BMW?

Check the manufacturer date on your car. pre September 2010 and u wont have the the Apple cable only integration and likely the album art. Do u need both the USB and headphone jack type cable to get the iPod to work? If so, then it is the older integration and u r SOL... Perhaps someone else on the board can confirm or correct my understanding... BTW, I use apple lossless as the crappy premium stereo makes the MP3/AAC sound even worse... not that the lossless sounds that great either. Otherwise its a great driving car! |

My car is a November '10 build and integrates with album art with the iPod cable. Opposite problem, if you use the BMW integration cable, you lose the album art. $70 for less than nothing. Anyone want a BMW cable?

I gather u had a leftover bmw cable from previous car? As one was not provided to me I just assumed any old apple iPod cable would work and it did.

Am not sure if this has been answered but here goes. I have cracked the problem.
I have a new 550i (April 2011 build) and connected my iPod via the Apple supplied cable to the center console USB. Some artwork displayed on the iDrive but most didn't and yet all artwork displayed on the iPod screen. After about an hour of frustration, I found the problem: If you use your own artwork files, that is album cover images that you found on the internet and drag them into the artwork tab in iTunes, it will NOT display that artwork in the iDrive. If you tell iTunes to go and find the artwork for you, it will ALWAYS display the artwork in the iDrive. I have tested this up-hill and down-dale and I know for sure this is correct. |

The regular Apple cable is that white cable that comes with the Apple iPod. Stick one end in the Apple iPod and the other (USB) end into the USB slot in the center console. Ignore the audio plug socket in the center console.
All will be well. Last edited by caoimhinog; 05-08-2011 at 03:34 PM. |

Have you found out and info about the retrofit for the 2012 7 series? I didn't get the BMW Apps for a big $250 option but spend 98K for the car and can't get Pandora or Album Art work!!!! Would love to hear if you have any suggestions.

I have a 09 135i I got a Y cable from ebay. When I connected my Gen 2 Itouch it says not compatible. When I connected mt 5th Gen Ipod classic (windows format) after a long time of reading it treated it like a drive and only showed to songs I happen to have on the root.
What models of Ipod are supported. Do I need a new IPOD? If so can I get a 6th Generation Nano? Thanks for any help. |
