Charging ipod while connected to stereo

I have an iphone and the message comes on the screen that my phone is not being charged while hooked up

Does anyone know if i hook an ipod up instead that this problem will still occur? If it's only an iphone thing i will go buy an ipod to simply leave in the car. Then get a cradle for the phone to charge and bluetooth...

So any help to those questions would be great

what are you hooking it up to? A cradle or the ipod interface?

If it's the ipod interface, Apple changed the dock connector at the bottom slightly so that the newer ipods/iphones couldn't be charged by older ipod connectors. You can buy an adapter from amazon for around 20 bux that corrects the issue. I have a Sosche (sp?) one that I use in my other car and it works flawlessly.

Yep just to the interface... so buying a cheap used ipod would solve my issue then?

if you guys could confirm that if i don't have scosche, i can use an older ipod and i'll be good..

*before i go and buy one*

No, I think you misunderstood us!

The sosche thing is an adapter that fixes the charging problem. Apple moved the pins that charge the ipod/iphone and the adapter makes sure that the charging current goes to the new pins.

here's the adapter:
http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-passPO...7693364&sr=8-2

No need to go out and buy a new ipod or a used one!

I think i did understand... if you have an ipod or iphone thats older than the 3g which used a certain type of port then it'll charge however Apple changed the design of the new products which aren't backwards compatible from a power stand point. So in Theory i'd be good with an old ipod or using this gadge with a newer one.

I believe they updated it last year to be compatible with newer cars as there was an interface issue. As well I know that the product is a hit or miss when you buy it b/c of their build quality. I bought 2 and one didn't work at all and had to exchange it. I know it's a hassle but it worked fairly well

Hi guys I have a question. I just got my Scosche and hooked it up to my ipod. It started charging right away. The only thing is I now hear a high pitched hum when I play the ipod. I disconnected the scosche and played the ipod and the humm was gone. Reconnect the scoche adapter and the humm is back. Has any one experienced this?

The BMW iPod interface was made for iPods made before the last 3 generations (some many gen's hard to keep track) the pin configuration on those older iPods/phones are different from the newer models. With that said any of the older iPods or the iPhone first gen will charge on the OEM interface fine but to get the newer devices to work you will need the Scosche I have this interface for my iPhone and my wife has an older iPod and I've tried all variations.

Thank Gmcclintock, I have the Scosche and it is charging my ipod. I just a humming coming throught the speakers when the Scosche is connected. I believe I will need some sort of ground loop interface to clean up the noise.

Don't know about the humm maybe somone else who've experienced it could help. Do you have an extension cable or is your iPod/iPhone still in the glove box? if you have an extension cable then try it without could be the cable...it could also be the interface itself maybe they didn't install it correctly or missed a step because I've never heard of the humm I for one don't have it.

I have the iPod in the glove box now and there is no humm. The humm may have been coming from the Scosche device itself and not through my speakers as I originally though because now I don't hear the humm.

Thanks for the feedback.

Cheers
