Weird problems post recall: nav system, adaptive headlights
Hi all ...
Been a while since I've been here. Our 2010 X5 diesel has mostly been a joy to drive. We took delivery in Feb 2010, and have only 12,000 miles (we don't live here all the time). Our gas (diesel) mileage has been a little disappointing, but moreso is the fact that diesel fuel has become more expensive than premium gasoline, so net-net, the diesel aspect hasn't been a $$ win. Other than that, we've been generally happy.
We just took the car in for the emissions recall. This recall, campaign 11E-A03, involves the SCR Catalyst, EGR Value and/or DEF Mixer and requires an ECU Software Flush. I think it is the reprogramming that has caused us a problem or two ... or it's just coincidence.
First, I've noticed that the Nav System doesn't seem to know our previous destinations, or even the state we're in (Utah). I assume it "forgot" and will re-learn these things. More troublesome, the voice recognition has not been as reliable as (or is more unreliable than!) it was before. It never seems to understand me. Even worse, the voice directions seem to have become less helpful ... it will nag, nag, nag me to turn many times to "turn right" on some occasions, and on others tell me to "turn right" AFTER I've crossed the relevant intersection.
Second, all of a sudden today, a week later, we got an indication of an "Adaptive Headlight Malfunction". I checked, per some other postings here on that error, and I don't see any condensation in the headlights. So, I suspect there may be another software glitch, maybe related to the reprogramming.
On an unrelated matter, when I took the car in, I reported a "crunching"/"groaning" sound when turning at about 30 mph. The dealer didn't hear it/didn't find anything. Yet, the noise is there.
Anyone else seeing these things or have comments re the possibility of programming-related issues?
