Cold Start Rattle, high frequency whine, steering grind, 02' 540i6
Symptoms:
*One second long rattle ONLY on cold start up *High pitch frequency when car is warm (gets incrementally higher in pitch if you turn up A/C) *Binding in steering at high RPM's *A/C blows cold, all fluids stay full. It's been around 5k miles since my last oil change. I've read about how the lifters just make the rattle, but, this noise has recently developed over the last two weeks. Replacing the Timing Chain Tensioner is a great idea regardless so I will try that. The car just turned over 91k

Check your air pump for rattling (right front fender). It is the only thing that operates on a cold start only.
