BMW Car Control School question

So exciting!!! So, when we picked up our 11 535xi GT last fall, we did the PCD. We also had an offer from BMWFS for a 1 day car control school, which we will do in about a month.

the plan is fly in, spend the afternoon walking around Greenville downtown, maybe do Miyabi sushi place in the evening, do the car control school the next day and fly home that night.

just wanted to say we are both excited about returning to Spartanburg!!

question: I know the car control school uses the F30 sedans. Since the wife normally drives the GT (17K miles since last fall!), is it possible to have her drive an F10 (a bit closer to what she usually drives)? I assume not, or at the very most, up to the discretion of the instructors/availability of the cars. (and this being a sunday school, I assume there may be an F10 resting somewhere)

You might want to do a search, I'm not sure they have F10s yet at the Performance Center. You might also want to check out the BMW museum if you have free time the day before. I felt like I could have used more time there. Downtown Greenville is worth a visit too.

thanks! I have searched -- from what I can tell, the car control schools are using the F30s. I assume they would not allow/encourage substitutions. When we did our PCD last fall (for our F07 GT), we had an F10 for the track.

We've seen the museum and plant during our PCD and I would love to spend all day doing that again, but the wife wants something different, so we'll spend sat afternoon walking around downtown Greenville. I hear there are many excellent restaurants -- I'm thinking The Lazy Goat for lunch and maybe Miyabi for dinner.

I did the 2-day car control course back in February, and we used the 135i and 335i (previous generation back then) vehicles exclusively with the exception of the X5 for the off-road course and a variety of cars were used for mini laps at the end of the second day (for us they were an M3, Z4 35is, X6M, and 550i). I don't know for certain, but I'm pretty sure they'll make you stick with the 1ers and 3ers as different cars are used for different exercises (i.e. 3ers beat up on the skid pad, 1ers for the wet rat race, 3ers for emergency braking, etc.). I could be wrong, but seems like it would be a bit crazy if they took special requests - and add to that the fact that two people share a vehicle in the car control courses (as opposed to the M Schools where you get your own cars for the day and thus get twice as much seat time).

yup, I assumed as much. do they do any off-roading in the 1 day course? I thought it was just track stuff. Wife was really impressed by the X5 off road portion during our PCD last year.

The Off Road course & the Performance Drive (autocross with various BMW models) are only part on the 2 day Car Control school. The Off Road would be the same as what you did during your PCD.

Enjoy
