Parking Brake Cable Removal Tool

First post - so I'll make it a good one.

I recently bought a 1998 328is for my son. The rear wheel bearings were noisy, so we set out to replace them. As you probably know, it took a lot more that I thought since the CV shaft was stuck in the hub....

So, I needed to remove the parking brake cable without damaging it. I crafted a shop-made took out of a Harbor Freight 7mm deep socket and grinding out a relief slot to allow the cable to pass by. I had a 1/4" drive extension that I stuck through the stud hole in the hub. A couple of taps with the hammer and it popped out.

E-mail me for a photo, if interested.

Yes, it exists and it works well on a late model car not in the rust belt. However, it does not help with a rusted-in cable where the only access is trough the stud hole in the hub. I have to remove the entire trailing arm to have the CV axle pressed out. Catch-22 - if you remember the movie...
