Yeah uhm, what is this?

This warning has popped up a couple times already. Not too often tho but only shows for like 10 seconds. Can anyone tell me more about this? I had a post on this already but this time I got a picture.of the warning. All answers appreciated!

First check your oil level in the engine, you have a dip stick as yours is a 645ci, then it maybe oil pressure sensor!!! as a starter!!!!

I would suggest checking your oil 1st. Next I would purchase a oil pressure switch, & replace it to see if the problems go away. If this does not correct the problem, have it towed somewhere for service. Do not operate the car until this problem goes away. If you can change the oil filter, remove it & cut it open to look for metal shavings. Take pics if needed, & post for help.

I hope it's just a bad switch!

The pressure sensor is a $10 part, I would change that first.

Like everyone else said, it the level is OK and the sensor does not fix the error I would tow it. If your pressure is actually low the engine can self destruct in under a mile of driving.

Even tho the warning shows up for only a few seconds?

You have not come back and said the oil level is correct, this is so easy to check!!! as stated this is a starter!!! Yorgi is +1 for a few bucks having the car checked or part changed the above, or get the car towed to a garage to check, oil pressure is not something you play around with on a " I think it will be ok" basis ! That is why the warning is there!!!!

On the right hand side towards the back of the engine, has a red loop to pull out with !!!

Ok so I have been getting this same warning recently but it flashes and then goes away. I had my oil changed at the dealership recently and this was not happening before that. The dealership put 5W-30 oil in my car and on the oil change before that, that I did myself, I read on here I should put 0W-40 Mobil 1 oil in it so I did. Could this be a bad sensor or is the lighter oil in the car now whats causing this warning to come on? Should they have put 0W-40 in when they change the oil? Why would the warning be coming up but going right away. It has done this a few times, but again it has only started happening since the dealership changed my oil.

The 645 manual actually does say 5w30. My 750 says 0w40. These are the N62 same engines! The only difference is a 4.4L verses a 4.8L. I don't think either oil would cause a problem, as long as it is serviced properly!

I doubt this is an oil level issue because the 645 (or at least mine) has an electronic oil level sensor as well as the dipstick.

A while back, on my first oil change, I pinched the o-ring on the filter housing, and hence started losing oil pretty quickly. Before long, I got a "low engine oil" warning when it got to about 2 quarts low.

I was surprised as I thought we in the dipstick era didn't get the electronic warning.

Heed Yorgi's advice... replace that sensor. Cheap part, and not hard to do. While you are at it, you might as well replace the o-rings on the vacuum pump since taking it out will make the oil pressure sensor removal vastly easier.

If you can't do any of that, then listen to him again and have it towed. You just don't mess with oil starvation in an engine. It can total your car in seconds. Not minutes, seconds.

The warning light only came up when the car was stopped.
When I was stopped I would put the car in neutral and rev the engine a little and the warning would go away. It would also go away when I just took off. I did this my whole way home from work yesterday.
Took my car in to the indy mech today. A little bit of oil puddled up under the car while they were looking at it. This was the first time oil had leaked since the warning came up a couple days ago because the first thing I did when it came on was check my oil level and for leaks under the car and it looked fine.
They were able to see the oil was leaking from where the oil pressure sensor is.
They are replacing the sensor and believe this will fix the issue. Mind you, on my way to work this morning the warning light never came on. It didn't come on all the way to the shop either.

I guess my question is, will replacing the whole sensor need to be done to fix the leak or can an O ring just be replaced. I know the sensor is a cheap part I'm just curious.
Also, he said the oil pressure is ok so does that mean I have a bad sensor and that's what was causing the warning to come up, or is the leaking oil what caused the warning, but how could this be if he said the oil pressure in my car was fine? I think it's great it's only the sensor so I'm not really questioning the repair, I guess I'm just trying to have a better understanding of what caused it.

My understanding is that these sensors have a failure mode that leads to leaks. It is not just the gasket/o-ring, but somehow the part breaks a leak. Take my comment with a grain of salt as I am only sharing hearsay.

I'd also say that if the leak was affecting the pressure reading, it is most likely related to the part not the seal. If the leak its self was big enough to lower the pressure in the engine, you would have pushed all the oil out of the engine in very short order. But if oil was getting inside the pressure transducer, then readings could be compromised with relatively small oil losses. Disclaimer: this is my educated guess, not an experientially based verdict.

And BTW... while they are in there... have them do the vacuum pump. $15 of parts and an extra hour of their time, and you will eliminate another leak that is likely to eventually bite you.
