Dealer VS DVD Nav update for 2010 650i: SUCCESS WITH DVD UPDATE!

Even though the dealer told me it is not possible, I just successfully updated my 2009 maps to 2012 on my 2010 650i. It costs me $50.00 instead of the $450.00 the dealer quoted me! Many thanks to:

Dealio for this link which provided alot of valuable info - http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=540474

Sergej for the FSC Code at the best price I have seen anywhere

ThunderDump for holding my hand during this process

Here's what I did:

1. Tried unsuccesfully to buy the 2012 NAV DVDs from a dealer. I ended up downloading them from this link: http://www.demonoid.me/files/details/2829786/21974616/

2. I contacted Sergej on gsunderground and purchased the FSC code for $50.00.

3. Used ImgBurn to burn the images onto 3 verbatim double-layer DVDs. (Note: Before burning the DVDs, I tried unsuccesfully to perform the update by placing the images on a 32G USB stick. I plugged the stick into the usb port in the glove box, but got no response from the system.)

4. Then I just turned my car around in my garage and openned the door so the exhaust would go outside, started the car, put in the first DVD, entered the code, and after about 2 hours of watching the update slide on the nav screen and putting in disks 2 and 3 on command....2009 Nav became 2012!.

Great forum for DIYers like me.

I bought a DVD on ebay only for West cost $35. I insert the DVD and it said off the car wait for 5 mins then start again. Do I miss out something? Why it never ask me for any code?

I think you will only need a gulf region DVD. Here is a thread with a link to the ISO.

Do a google search and you will find a lot of information on local Dubai forums.

The easiest method is to buy the DVD from the dealer. Next easiest is eBay.

You can grab a copy of the ISO from a torrent and burn a DVD yourself if you are feeling piratey.
