It wasn't bad at all. Two screws hold the cluster in and four plugs to unplug. I had to wedge in into the steering wheel and then turn it to be able to pull it out. I ordered the rings and carbon fiber from an Ebay seller in Ireland and the gauge faces from a website that sells just those. They came with instructions on how to install them. In all, I have about $65 into it.

Yup I got about what I wanted to get. Now to sell off the Beyern wheels, side skirts, and sway bars, and potentially the leather seat back.

Looks like I'm keeping 'er. Parents aren't too happy about how much I've been spending on it and how I'm trying to sell it at the same time. It's 80% complete now, all that's left is A/C leak fix + recharge, dead OBC, take care of the faded chrome trim, re-paint the front lip, renew the leather seats, and re-wrap my wood trim with better quality 3M Carbon Fiber wrap.

I still have a couple saved for it but I think I'd rather spend it on making this supercharged :P or might use it towards school if all else fails

supercharging the 540i would be an all round better choice

Hooked up my car to a GT1 earlier this week. Cleared every fault on it, took a drive and came back. Only fault that came back was due with the IHKA because the circulating air flap is stuck for some reason.

Welcome Gixxer, I followed your build on bimmerforums. I love your ride. I also have a 1995 540i msport, although mine still has a ways to go. Look forward to seeing the supercharger build. Nice to see another Msport owner on this forum, not as many 540 owners on here but hopefully that will change.

sweet looking car gixxerboy!How do you like the vogtlands and koni's? how do they compare to stock set-up? I have been eyeing up a set myself for a little while now.

I had that exact setup in my E34 520i wagon too, FAR better than stock setup. I had a 525i wagon at the same time, and the difference is well worth it.

only reason it came out is the spring rates are too low to pass certification for my new engine. **** up of a system really but thems the rules, have gone to coilovers now

Love the Koni/Vogtland setup. Lower than factory M tech, but not too low. It has a nice compliant ride, yet firms up when you need it. BMWs are known for great handling; this takes it to the next level. It is the best setup I have known thus far. I was tempted to go GC coilovers to have total adjustability, but I wasn't a fan of cutting/welding my strut housings....

I'm happy with what I have and will probably never change it unless I go back to EDC.... but then the car will sit a little higher again... (sigh!)

Sounds like a plan! Just let me know the time and the place and I'll be there. Yeah I love the silver too. I was looking to get a stock 540. In doing research I found Charlie Kindel's site and thought "Man I'd love to have one of those!" Found a few around the country but never one in TN. Then I found this one in Atlanta and picked it up the next day. It needs a new front bumper,minor body work, and the front seat recovered. Also it's one of the 65 with automatics so one of these days I'd like to swap it out for a 6-speed.
