Hard time starting

My 88 635 csi at times gives me a hard time starting and looses power and then regains power lost......the car runs strong.... I have replace voltage regulator,fuel filter and fuel pump,my mechanic thinks it may be the idle control valve?

Could very well be that. Also, check for vacuum leaks!

Remove the distributor cap and check for dampness and corousion inside the cap and for a faulty rotor arm and please remember that spark plug leads or wires do age and they DO need replacing.

Thanks for reply had a wires and tune up and replaced and also had valves tuned up last May.....I think it may be the idle control valve now that you suggested a tune up and that was done... Thanks again I appreciate your response....
