I don't think its normal, especially in a car like this.

I usually get the squeel at lower speeds when I'm braking, however it occurs at higher braking speeds as well.

Its very frustrating that a 92k MSRP car does this. I would expect it from a different car, not from this one.
Zach,
I see your local to me...
Bring your car to Vista BMW in Pompano and see Frank in service. He knows me well and he knows Ive been battling this squealing issue for a while.
Mention my name (Isaac) and tell him your there for the same brake problem I had. Youll be done in 2 hours and no more squeal.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Sorry guys - reviving an old thread - need Yorgi's thoughts

Yorgi - sorry to reach out directly to you like this, but by all standards, you are the expert

Getting ready to replace brake pads and rotors on the front using your DIY of course!! I also need to flush my brake fluid.

I'd like to get your thoughts on Stainless Steel brake lines. I've installed them on two of my previous cars and know that you've done your 650i, but didn't know if it was worth the effort?

It looks like there are 2 solutions:

1) FRONTS & REARS = http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E64-650...4.8l/ES248609/
2) FRONTS = http://www.stoptech.com/Search/Produ...ssSteelLineOEM and for the REARS = http://www.stoptech.com/Search/Produ...ssSteelLineOEM

I'm just not sure how much effort this is going to be and if there is any really noticeable difference in the brake feel. Would really appreciate your thoughts!

Thanks (not only for this, but for all of you technical expertise and insight)

I am a big fan of SS brake lines. I noticed an improvement in pedal feel but it was not huge during normal street use. I take the car on the track occasionally and the lines will make a big difference once the brakes get very hot after a few laps. The rubber hoses get soft when the brakes heat up and then you really notice the pedal get soft.

If you are changing fluid you may as well change the lines since you need to bleed the brakes regardless. The lines a great low-cost upgrade and are very easy to install. The hardest part is the brake bleed.

I went with the StopTech lines and StopTech pads too which are awesome.

Yorgi - thanks man! I've got the StopTech pads in the garage and I'm doing the pads and OEM rotors tomorrow. The front left squeal is killing me... Have the brake bleeder (Motive brand) and some fluid ready to go, but will order the SS lines before doing the flush. Really appreciate the quick response.

I can use you Yorgi! lol!

The dealer actually said my squeeling was the brake pad sensor. They replaced the sensor and front pads on a goodwill gesture!

I was pretty happy... but I do still hear the damn squeel. Im not sure if its the back now. Its even faint as I drive. Im so disappointed with the brakes on this car...

same thing happened to me and I removed and cleaned numerous times to find the problem without any luck. Turned out my bearing was going, moving ever so slightly but enough to create wheel movement. replaced and not a single squeek.
