Alarm

Been lurking on this board for a while, thanks to all for the great info. Will likely pull the trigger on an F30 within the next 6 months or so. Still deciding between 328 vs 335 and Sport vs M-Sport.

I notice that the car alarm is a $400 option, does the car not come with some kind of basic alarm system and this is an upgraded version? Do most people get the alarm, seems like a basic item that is included in almost all cars.

Also what do people think, I notice there are some option allowances on the 5 and 7 series, anyone think they'll run some kind of allowance on the 3 by December or is the car still too new?

I got the alarm so it will beep when I lock the doors, drove me crazy on my e93 to not have that. You won't know any financing deals until the month that you order or buy.

I got it as well for the same reason but quickly realized that with comfort access I always hear / see the car lock everytime I get in or out of my car...in hindsight I wouldn't have gotten it but oh well.

You also get the flashing clown nose, which I do like that I can see from my living room. Plus with the videos floating around of people stealing these cars in 3 minutes as well as the insurance discount. Definitely not a necessity though if $$$ is tight.

Alarm is standard on the 335i in the US. I have a 335i on order, but I initially ordered a 328i and I added the $400 alarm option--mostly for the audible beep when locking.

The 2012 F30 335i is the first 3er to ever have an alarm as standard equipment. That's the German and BMW way. You're paying for engineering you don't get in other brands, not for the extra little toys.

Allowances on the F30 are very unlikely.

Will the car beep when the door open is pressed on the remote? I am thinking of when you want to locate your car in a parking lot.

Operating a stolen BMW is not an easy affair. The only advantage you are getting for $400 is the audible alarm, which everyone ignores anyhow.

The click/click from the Comfort Access locking is loud enough to inform you it worked.

I'm also contemplating the Alarm option. I'm about to put my order in and the dealer mentioned no one really orders the alarm since the car is disabled without the key. I won't have comfort access but would like some audible feedback when locking and unlocking the the car. Does the alarm have a motion sensor if someone bumps the car?

Isn't the insurance discount already in place if you have comfort access with the GPS locator? Equivalent to LoJack.

Also, if you get the "BMW Connected App," you can locate the car either through your iPhone and get GPS-based directions to it, or get it to honk and flash and such.

I passed on the alarm. Nobody pays attention to a flashing alarm, and I can locate it if it gets stolen, anyway.

If it is stolen I imagine that BMW can even cut the engine remotely. Not sure if it's legal or not, but yeah, at a minimum if you have the BMW Assist they can locate it for you on its way to the chop shop.
