All Season vs. Performance Tires

CA just called to get the final details on the order and asked me what tires I want from the above. Said the new All season would last longer! What? Why would anyone get the 335 with sports line and opt for all season tires so they could last longer? Isn't the whole idea is to get the best dang driving experience? I told him performance tires but does anyone experience the drive with both to compare?

I have had both on my 07 335i and found that Go Flat Ultra High Performance All Seasons out performed the summer RFTs that came on the car.

Since you are in an area where it is unlikely the temp will drop near freezing, which can turn summer tires into hockey pucks, the summer tires should be fine but they will wear faster than all seasons.

They were Pirelli P_Zero Nero M&S. I believe they were discontinued and replaced with the P_Zero Nero All Season. They were top rated when I bought them but that was in 2007. They appear to get good mileage but before I got rid of the OEM shocks and replaced them with Koni FSDs I kept destroying them on NYC potholes and having to replace them while they still had plenty of tread left.

I am still using them and am very satisfied with them. One added advantage is that they are very quiet,

CA

Just curious, are you ordering from Fields? My CA said they had no choice of tires.

BTW, I got summer touring tires with my 328i, and I think they are great.

thanks for the response. I was looking at the Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position. I heard good things about the also.

Fields is a joke! Were willing to discount 1% of MSRP. I know the manager and it seems like they were doing a favor for me. So I decided to do another ED through Adrian from South Atlanta. He said the All season would be decent but the performance would of course be better for well, performance but would naturally wear out faster.

Yeah, they don't have much incentive seeing as how they can't keep one on the lot and every allocation they have is assigned to a special order.

I know that I paid too much at Fields, but I will get it back out of them in free washes and meals. There's a value in buying locally.

Well, any BMW gets a free wash at Fields plus when you use their service you do get to eat free as well. I actually have a good friend who works there in sales and I have very good terms with the sales manager since we have bought over 7 cars from them in the past 15+ years. I got my sister in-law the X5 there from $1500 over invoice which was great but not paying them asking price for the F30. Besides, I wanted to do the PCD also so ED worked out since I ended up getting a 335 for the price of a 328

Do you guys know the estimated life of the tires (in miles), for both summer and all season?

The Fields program isn't supposed to work that way with washes, but I'm sure it can be done. I'm not the kind of person who would show up there with a car bought somewhere else and try to get goodies. I'm sure many do.

All things being equal, I expect the average driver will get between 15000 and 25000 miles on summer tires, and between 20000 and 35000 on all seasons. Obviously this depends on how hard you push a particular car. Those numbers are from my wife and I's experience. Average to performance drivers running all season, summer and winter tires.

Since most F30s do not come with staggered tires, it is now possible to rotate all four tires which should drastically cut down on rear tire wear.

Summer tires sell for more. Get them, sell them, and replace with GFT.

I only run summer tires on the two BMWs that I take care of (the X3 and 325i). The compound is generally softer and will wear faster. However, I won't sacrifice the crispness, handling feedback, or shorter braking distances that a good summer tire provides. Why would anyone get no-season tires?

My mother loves in the Northeast (DC area) so she was winter tires/rims for 4 months of the year when temps are below 7°C.

Mileage on tires will vary. My mother's 325i had approx 32.000mls (52.250km) on her set of ContiSportContact3 which were installed back in März 2009- terrific tires all around. Too bad Continental is doing product differentiation now (like VW) and not selling their best tires from overseas. And on my X3 has put over 53.700km or 33.350mls on its current set of summer tires, although the sidewalls suggest I may have driven the X3 around mountains at the limits........

Your CA was correct. For MY2012, there was not a choice of tires. Sport line got summer performance and modern and luxury lines got all season. For MY2013, Sport and M-sport buyers now have that choice.
