Totalled or Not??

Was T-boned last Friday by a driver failing to yield the right of way. The driver slammed into my left rear tire sending me into a spin which caused the frontal damage.

Waiting to hear what my insurance company will determined. Totalled or not?

I am ok, a total testimate to BMW engineering (and perhaps the man upstairs)

I walked away almost completely unscathed. Only an airbag burn.

PS: Regardless of this outcome, I am still committed to driving a Z4. Fan for life here

Don't know how it works in Florida, but in NY the damage has to exceed 75% of the car's value. Your car is 3 MYs old - what's it worth? I quick search shows that your car is selling in the mid $40's. So, your damage has to be around $30K for a total. But that's NY.

If he hit you hard enough in the rear tire to cause you to spin -what's the rear look like? I'd guess about $5K for the Frt damage. I doubt its totaled unless there is substancial frame/suspension damage.

$12, 500 worth damage. Engine removed and replacing a frame rail.

Damages are now at $20,000

Still not enough to total it. Are you going to be OK driving this thing? That's a lot of damage.

These cars are so modular nowadays that repairs can be completed, but the cost of spares is so proportionally expensive, but I agree you must be close to 50% of the cars value!!!

After it gets fixed, make sure you file a diminished value claim! Good luck and sorry to see your beloved in that sort of shape.

You will get dollars, particularly if there is any frame damage. The question is how much. Right after the car is repaired, get an independent appraisal of its value disclosing all the damage that was repaired and what couldn't be made 100% new like frame damage. Then (here's the hard part) get an appraisal of the car before it had the damage or discounting the subsequent repairs 100%. The difference is what I would ask for. If there is a big gap between what they finally offer and your number, consider filing a small claims court suit.

Glad to know you are back in your ride. Despite your happiness, try to be objective in evaluating any potential issues since the repair- new rattles, squeaks, steering issues and then let the repair shop know. Good luck and hope it's the end of the story for you

Absolutely. Driving down to the Keys this weekend. Perfect opportunity to assess the condition after all repairs. And Im going after a Diminished Value claim with full force. Luckily, there is precedent in FL for such claims.

Damn sorry to see it go so high. In hindsight totalling it might have been better for everyone except the repair shop.
