Z4 iPod adapter install help
I apologize up front if some of you are rolling your eyes thinking... Not another iPod adapter post... But I am at my wits end. I watched the videos, looked at the other posts... But I still can get to the part of even locating the connectors! I have posted a few pics to help illustrate my point.
To start off... I have a 2003 Z4 without navigation or satellite radio but it does have the DPS option and I believe the 10 speaker setup although I only count two behind each seat and one on each door... My goal is to install the USA-Spec PA12BMW-DSP. I accessed the back carpet area in the trunk and found it to be different from the one in the dice video... Where that z4 had a hole in the firewall and the tech found the cables... Mine was solid. There was a small hole in the top right corner But there were no available wires there, just a bundle that went down to an unknown place.. http://db.tt/FdQhnNlO Next...I looked at the center and there was another hole that had more wires, a couple that looked like they might be the dsp coax wires... http://db.tt/25K9c8Jl So I worked to pull them out and succeeded... But I found what look like two coax cables (neither of which work the iPod adapter cable) and an open connector that looks to have 8-10 pins... Again, not what I'm looking for. http://db.tt/aAcDHvl5 Third location is the left side of the trunk. Here, there is a metal cover and a lot more wires. There is another open coax cable on the bottom but I didn't find any 3 pin or 6 pin connector. http://db.tt/ohr3JdSa I looked by the battery and found the dsp amp or whatever it is. It also had a coax cable going into it and a single large harness. It didn't look like that was what I was looking for so I left it alone. Finally,I decided perhaps I needed to take apart the rear oddments box to try and find what I was looking for. I got the box off (unfortunately after breaking a few things that I'll need to replace) but don't see any of the required wires either. Perhaps they are behind the storage box but since the storage box is wider in the back, it appears I'd have to remove the panels behind the seats in order to get it out which is way more than I want to take on... http://db.tt/C5JRvVHY I'm extremely tired and frustrated and don't know what else to check. I'd really appreciate some help from you peeps to get me thru this. Thanks, |

A little more info...
I'm still working on this and still at a loss...
But here is some more info should it help in getting me help... here is a pic of the battery with the dsp module pulled out. It has the coax I mentioned and the wiring harness... http://db.tt/CVltoZ2r I then found this. Install instructions for the cd chamfer... Figured it would show me where the cables are... And it shows them behind the rear console storage pocket... http://db.tt/cHwybx9m So I looked into it further and I am sure that the only cables located in this area are the ones I mentioned yesterday. After looking a little closer, the harness says AMP. Here is a close up picture... http://db.tt/jQQJ85af So... No closer. Do I an adapter for this harness to the 3 pin and 6 pin cables I'm missing? Any ideas? |

My bad...
Ok... I spent sooooooo much freakin time and took so much **** apart for just about nothing. I startd retracing my steps logically thinking... It has to be there. Once I looked at a few more pics of what the wires looked like... I went back to the trunk. I looked at a few of the wires back there and started looking for groups that might show me some sign of where they ended up. After looking at a few near the center of where the cd changer would be, I saw a group that made me think that had to be them... So I pulled and what do you know... There they were!
http://db.tt/2JBOP26A It might be that by taking apart the center console and messing with the center storage box I was able to loosen it enough so that the wires were free where they previously felt attached... Either way, I'm just like F24'?!$@!!!!!! My bad.... Put everything back together other then the top cover that I broke and will have to replace... But at least I'm set up and going.... Thanks anyway... |

Same Issue
I have been trying to install a Dice adapter and have experienced the same frustrations. Could you tell me the color(s) of the wires that led to the connectors? Did you have to pull them from inside? There doesn't seem to be any room to do so in that middle section. Thanks.

I just got the PA12-BMW (non-DSP) for my ZHP, and I LOVE it. I'm planning on putting one in the M Coupe next. I'll have it professionally installed, not interested in going through the frustrations above in my 100+ degree garage..

Fixed Also
Persistence pays off! I, too, found the two connections after lots of tugging and scraped knuckles. It goes as easily as advertised on the BSW videos once you find the two wires.
