Computer display stays on

The display stays on (time display) after I turn off the car and remove the key. If the radio was playing it stays on as well. When I use the button to turn off the radio is off but the time shows and couple of days the battery is drain. Is there a way to power down the computer display? Forgot to mention it is a 2003 BMW x5. Thanks
