01 740iL - Headliner question
Hello everyone...For anyone out there who has ever taken down and reinstalled their head liner (or someone else) for what-ever reason, how long did it take or how long should it take if you know what you're doing? I need my sun roof cassette/cartridge replaced and am getting various responses from local body/auto shops. Appreciate all responses....

It takes about 2.5-3.0 hours to take cassette out. Need to remove A,B and C pillars, both front sunvisors, four handles that on headliner, disconnect interior alarm sensor, drop the headliner, disconnect all four drain tubes, disconnect sunroof motor and unbolt cassette from the roof. Headliner and cassette both comes out from left rear door.
Good luck. P.S. Sunroof glass lid needs to be removed first.

On this same thought. The material is falling away from the roof of my car. I believe air has gotten in the liner. Is the process explained the same way to tighten up my liner?

If it got loose the easiest way is to replace it. There are some special clips @ Oreily's that will hold it in place

I replaced the entire cloth piece on my headliner. 3m makes glue that works extremely well. It comes in a spray can and usually costs around $10-$15

How did you do the replacement?

Remove the entire headliner from the car, remove the healiner cloth from the actual headliner its self. The headliner is actually just a shaped board. After that scrape off the old glue so the cloth can actually adhere to board, not the glue on the board. Then pick some fabric to use, I'd go with something relatively thin, its lighter and more flexible. Cut out the cloth in the shape of the board, then use the 3m heavy duty glue to glue it to the board. I usually spray both the cloth and the board with the glue to get a better hold, but follow the instructions on the can. The whole job can be done in a day easily. I suggest practicing on a couple before diving right in just to make sure you can get the curves right. I'm doing the one on my 750 soon, I can post up a guide with pictures when I do if you'd like.

I would really appreciate the lesson. My roof appears to be falling on top and makes the ride look bad. Thanks
