2012 535ix or 2013 640i Gran Coupe?

Looking at purchasing either a 2012 535ix or 2013 640i Gran Coupe using European Delivery. The 535ix would have most of the packages and options on it where as the 640i Gran Coupe would only have a couple on it to keep the price to within $6,000.00 of the 535i.

I like the exterior look and the interior layout of the 640i the best but then I have to give up a lot of toys.

This car is for my wife so driving comfort and safety are more important to her than high performance. I'm also thinking that resale would be better on the 640i as the $20k in options on the 535i wouldn't get much in the resale market.

So you experienced BMW owners, what do you think of between the 5 and 6 series lines?

the gran coupe come with a lot of standard features that will be an option on the 5 series. If you really like the look go for the gran coupe. if you don't really care about the look go with the 5 series. just my 2 cents.

Here is what I have come up with for the included 6 series items that are extra add ons with the 528ix/535ix:

Dynamic Damping Control
Navigation system with 10.2-inch Display, voice feedback, Voice command system, and Real Time Traffic Information
Retractable, high-intensity headlight washers
Comfort Access keyless entry with multi-function remote control
Park Distance Control, front and rear, with graphic display
Integrated 3-button Universal garage-door opener
Rear-view Camera

Anything else?

If you are looking for safety I think you should go with Head up display and Lane Departure Warning also Integral Active Steering wouldn't hurt .

Of course I was trying to be funny. Wife can be sexy + practical, and you can still get the 5 series. All in the eye of the beholder...

Ha ha Stealth.Pilot. It's going to be the wife's car, she is much happier with the all leather luxury interior vs. HP under the hood.

I could see doing an M6 convertible for myself at some point.

Ace535i My dealer Alderson Lexus in Lubbock accepted my offer on the GC. I did offer them the higher range of what deals have been going for on this forum. They did spend quite of bit of time with us, I think we went over there six+ times so I wanted to give them a fair price and a shot to sell us the vehicle.

Don't know what the weather will be like in Munich in Sept. but I expect that it will start cooling down and not be as muggy as Houston in the summer time. It's only a quick five day trip as the kids will be back in school. Thinking of doing the Alpine Road, Burgundy and then drop off in Paris or Black Forest and back to Munich for Octoberfest and drop off.

I'm sure she will love it. I was at the dealership last Wednesday and they had a 640GC in. There were several women drawing their husbands towards the GC. It clearly is a car that women love!

Not just the GC but the 6 series lineup in general even the X6. where I live more women drive the X6 than men and I even saw a dozen of them drive X6M.

Wife said she would be happy with a 5er too but was more drawn to the 6GC.

I would like to make one other scenario:

Wife finds out husband called her frumpy = 458 Italia for her divorce attorney...

Back on a serious note, I think you made the right choice. I'd definitely want my wife driving a GC. Now I just need to get a wife, preferrably a hot one , and then I'll have an excuse to get the GC.

Aside from the 650i convertible I've see at work in the doctor's lot, I saw my first 6er around town yesterday!!! It was a 640i GC with M Sport in Carbon Black and full LEDs - pretty much a clone of mine that had taken a bit of Viagra and sprouted two more doors. It was beautiful! It followed me onto the interstate and I was purposely late to a meeting because I was trying to slow down on the interstate so I could see it. I finally got to see my car (sort of) on the road, and it made my day. I'm very easily entertained (no good pig races going on down here last weekend ).

I'd like to propose that all extraneous taxes be removed from these cars because of the positive force they have in society. Seeing these cars on the road brighten everyone's day and thus benefit society. Just throwing that out there. It may not stick, but that would be the case if I were in power
