Another good reason to ED

We're here (in the Premium Lounge).

We got our car!

And I've discovered another reason to ED: 1 mile on the odo. As we were told, "All we do is drive it across the street." (This is probably only for 3 series cars.)

What a blast. Our last ED was at Friemann; die Welt is amazing. If you are browsing these posts wondering if you should do an ED, stop thinking about it and just do it. It's a blast.

A question on the mileage showing on the car at ED. When we toured the BMW assembly plant in Munich a couple of weeks ago, they showed us where each car went through a series of tests on a rolling road before the car went out of the factory. The tests lasted a couple of minutes, and included a couple of runs at pretty high speeds. So, based on that, how can the car only show 1 mile on the odo (or 0 miles, as I've seen on some other photos on this site)? Wonder if the odo isn't initialized until after these tests?

Also, noticed your gas tank wasn't full. Is that typical for ED? At ~$8 or so per gallon, can see how that might be a huge cost!!

Yes, they claim it's fire safety code.

Yes, they only give you a quarter tank at pickup...

The 5 Series come a tad higher.

78 euros to fill the tank with super today. About $96. Not cheap. But we avereaged 28 mpg from Munich to Zurich today, mostly at 85 mph.

Forget what the bozos on this board complain about with the F30. It's a great car.

I'm not sure this is a big plus materially, if just emotionally. They'll still drive your car from onto the boat, boat to VPC, and upon redelivery. So it's not as though your car will be driven significantly less (if at all) by other persons. It's definitely nice to see it at least once though.

Fuel is about 20 cents per liter cheaper in Austria, compared to Germany, at least it was two weeks ago. Was running about 1.32 Euro for diesel in Austria, about 1.52 in Germany. Difference was taxes.

My M3 had 4 miles on it at delivery at the Welt. As far as gas goes, just buy some and dont worry about the price. Your on vacation dude with a new Bimmer!!!!! I averaged 17 mpg and put on 3395 miles in 6 countries this past June for my ED. I had so much fun that I dont even remember how much I spent on gas and I kept the receipts for souviniers.

Well, someone asked for pix. I'm not big on posting lots of photos. But I am happy to share this one. We're on the glass-smooth Bundesautobahn 96 headed to Zurich.

You can see I'm doing 80 but of course people with broken-in cars are passing me at 120mph. I envy them but not too much.

My F30 was made for this road. And no doubt you can see the grin on my face because I know that driving this car on the roads it was engineered for is nothing like it'll be when I get the car home. I know -- and you can tell -- that this is what the "driving experience" BMW talks about really is. You gotta come to Europe to experience it natively.

BTW, the folks who think the F30 is softer than the E90 are right. And, car journalists and their snobby "preferences" be damned, a softer, bigger, more luxurious 3 Series is exactly what I wanted.

The car is in a "tester mode" at that point, mileage won't register.
