Dark Graphite Gray

How is Dark Graphite I different from Dark Graphite II? Any info will be appreciated.

The Tsunami is Japan knocked out a plant that made Dark Graphite I.

Dark Graphite II is the same color, however, I think the metal flakes are not as pronounced.

They both are metallic.

I had Dark Graphite on my 2010 750i and I now have Dark Graphite II on my 2012 AH7. At first I thought there was no difference, but now myself, spouse and friends think DG II looks richer, deeper, glossier and we find the metallic speckles and multi colours to be more pronounced! I think both DG and DG II are amazing colours. So beautiful, easier to keep clean than black, and no swirl marks!! It is a colour, that looks good on almost every model (if even available).

Does BMW really get Japanese paint for the 7 Series, a car with only a Germany plant and tooling & equipment?? Is this confirmed?

I think the fleck in the paint was manufactured in Japan, not the paint as such, I expect the paint will be mixed at the time it is needed.

That makes sense. Paint is heavy, and you wouldn't want to transport that across continents if avoidable.

Now that I recall, I believe you are correct.

I have not seen DGI and DGII up close so I really don't know which one looks better or if there is much of a difference.

The Tsunami affected DGI paint production and from what I read in another post the bezel for the 5 series dash for cars without Nav. Which is why many cars (including mine) were made/offered with free Nav as they did not have parts to assemble the standard idrive screen.
