e46 bmw 323i problem
instead of describing what it sounds like i put up a link, apart from the noise it is sluggish compared to what it should be

the only idler pulley i heard of is for timing/cam belt but mine is a chain
|

Not *inside* the engine....the serpentine drive belt on the front of the engine.

heres the diagram from google; the idler pulley is labeled.

and that little pulley determines whether the car is sluggish or not, or is that affecting the rough noise

really, well i will try get that sorted soon then, thanks, any idea as to the sluggishness of car, is there another name for the idler pulley

nope, just called the idler pulley. and for the sluggishness it could be a number of things...are there any other symptoms?

the best i can say is it does not respond to me pressing the accelerator, it feels like im not pressing accelerator much when it does get going even when foot to floor and it bounces when im going at low speed through towns
|

you have a 323 and your complaining about it being sluggish......really?? I have a 325 and I know it is sluggish!!!.....lol

well mine is 200hp and 280 torque, it was quick but now it slow, i think engine might have been changed, american bmw are downgrades compared to europe models well the m3 definitely was

those numbers are way too high for a stock engine. Yes I would like to see the dyno sheet as well. even a 330 doesn't pull that

i don't disagree at all, well a 330 is up to 235hp, a 328 is 190hp, i know that a stock 323i is 170hp,

How long has it been sense you (or someone else) changed the spark plugs?

thanks, spark plugs changed last week air filter and fuel filter a few months, oil change a few months

Has this lack of hp been going on for a while? Has it been a gradual change or something within the last weeks or months?
I am hoping to keep this thread going so we can get more help. My general automotive knowledge is fairly good. My BWM specific knowledge is not that good. You are not going to get a gread deal of hp out of a 323. Last edited by mrg325i; 07-28-2012 at 07:08 PM. |
