Additives to Clean Injectors?

The dealer recommended an injector clean last visit as the car was running a bit rough per the tech. Cost $175. I thought it ran noticeably better after.

Does the dealer do something more aggressive than just pouring injector cleaner in the tank?

If I use add cleaner 1/month is that in your experience adequate to keep injectors clean?

What additives do you recommend?

I've used both Chevron Techron Concentrate and Redline SI-1. I would recommend either one. The car is noticeably smoother afterwards

And don't do it once a month, do it roughly every 4000 miles

Techron is one of the best cleaners out there but for anyone that uses it for the first time be sure to change the fuel filter pretty quick after using it. This stuff works quite well and will not only clean your injectors it will clean out your tank and fuel lines and any build up thats there. This lodges in the fuel filter and can leave you stranded if your are not careful.

Ive seen this happen a few times. I imagine most bmw's have pretty clean systems in general so your not likely to have problem for the most part but I always recommend changing the filter if its the first time using the bottle of it. I havent seen the problem with people that switch to gas that has techron in it.

One other thing to note. If you use the product and it solves any issues you have (skipping or idle issues) and the problem comes back shortly afterwards over and over that usually indicates a failing injector. Eventually adding techron wont get it back running right again.

Changing the filter is easy. The filter is located underneath the drivers door.

I'd suggest the redline SI-1 fuel injector cleaner and also changing the fuel filter if the car is running rough.

Redline every 3-5K miles, fuel filter every 50-75K
