I hadn't noticed a Cadillac on the road in the past 10 years until this thread started last week, so I started paying attention to them. And just when I'm about to say, "gee, that ATS is getting some traction" it turns out that I'd been seeing every Cadillac model they make.

This thread has entertainment value, for sure, but no one is going to give up a Bimmer for a Caddy. Can we please move onto another wannabe 3 Series Killer brand? Audi is always fun. Infiniti brings the lolz. Never hear from Acura owners, would love to see them whine for a week. But debating a GM product from a truck manufacturer? Ugh, no more.

ATS does soften the look quite a bit, which should appeal to some European buyers.

The BMW's are all drop-dead gorgeous, the Cadillac's are all ugly. If Scarlett Johanson got cloned two more times the world would rejoice; the Caddy is strictly Kardashian.

You couldn't be more wrong. "Personal taste" is the only force behind the luxury car buying decision. It's not like we're talking about $12,000 commonplace cars for basic transportation. When you get up in the $50,000 range it's all about personal taste.

Are you buying a Cadillac? I'm trying to figure out why you care so much about this low-end faux luxury car.

Maybe, there are more than a few here, BMW owners, already said they dislike the new F30 look, and have no problem with the new ATS look, so yes, personal taste is important, I never said it was not.

I have not decided yet, but in my next comparison shopping, you can bet ATS will be on the list. What motivated me was the thought of driving it to the Walmart.

I bet I can pickup more hot single moms with multiple kids in tow in an ATS, than you in your F30.

My favorite was when a couple of years ago someone was posting comparison to Huidai or Kia Santa Bleh, whatever that Special-Financing car maker is. So Cadillac doesn't sound so bad all of the sudden

Buying for prestige, um...you're on a freaking BMW forum. There's no prestige in the BMW name. Not sure why people wander around acting like BMW is some unattainable vehicle. The 3 series owner has a median household income of 140k. The 3 series is the 6th best selling car in car crazy southern California. It's more common for a 3 series to leave a dealer lot than a Ford Escort in So Cal. If you want something with prestige you're looking in the rare space reserved by Ferrari, Lambo, Rolls. BMW is not in that world. It's a big, common car company. Yeah, some clown driving a Chevette say, "Ohhh, BMW" but right next to the 3 are 5 SUVs that cost just as much and the soccer moms driving them think nothing of the BMW or the cost comparison.

As for performance, the loaded 42k G37 Sport, that's 6 years old, will stand toe to toe with the 335i. For comparable equipment that 335i's gonna have to be pushed up well above 50k.

I like BMWs, but I can't blindly support the brand or make false claims about the brand v. competitors. The G, especially for its age, is a helluva performer. If I could get over the massive length/weight and the coarse V6, it's a better car dollar for dollar than the 328i and nearly as good as the 335i. The first gen G35 was a good deal behind the e46. Second gen G37 was closer to the 3 series, while the e90 became a worse 3 series. As the F30 has taken another step back in terms of steering/roadfeel, while also growing (yet again), it seems the the G has the door wide open for its next gen. The G has continually improved, so it seems to follow the next gen G will match (or maybe eclipse) the F30 in performance. Dollar for dollar it seems almost a given it'll be a much better buy.

I've Had 3 BMWs and 4 is on the way. I like the way BMWs feel but trust me I wish I could like the G to pull the trigger as it's just better made and will be cheaper to keep running longterm. The heart wins over logic...

And when it comes to brand, BMW is atop the pile and Cadillac isn't even close. In order to understand the product you have to think like the customer. And in this case the customer is two very different things. White-collar America aspires to own a BMW. Only blue-collar types want to own a Cadillac. Car ownership is all about bagging the girl. Just like cavemen in ancient times, whoever carries the biggest stick gets the best woman. Your Ford F150 owner needs a Cadillac to bag his barefoot babe at the pig roast. Your Volkswagen GTI owner needs a BMW to bag his trophy wife at the country club.

The streams do not cross. Ms. Cute College wants a man-in-a-suit who drives a BMW, Ms. Dirty Toes wants a man-in-a-jumpsuit who drives a Cadillac.

As such, Cadillac can never take a bite out of BMW. Cadillac can grow its own market share, take sales away from the likes of Infiniti, Lexus, Acura, Audi and the other wannabe luxury brands, but BMW is something special. Cadillac and the other frauds aren't status-symbols. They're just luxurious cars. That's the difference. If you pretend racecar drivers would take your heads out of your aspirated asses, you'd see that.

Tho I didn't like reading "CUE needs to be faster" in a Cons category of an early review. Just imagine the distraction it will be to try to perform an action, then nothing happens, and god forbid someone one keeps staring @ the screen -- or looks away, and back, and again -- until seeing that action trigger and complete. I tell you if any delay in the system's reaction is beyond only a few dozen milliseconds of delay, in this rising age of "anti-distracted driving legislation" I can see this thing becoming the poster child for a legislator trying to make a name for his or her self.
