i-drive and AC Problems
On Saturday just picked up a new to me X5 07' 4.8i. Test drove it the friday before, everything was ok, even test drove it again on Saturday before purchasing. When I went to leave after everything was said and done, the AC would not work properly. Would only blow thru the defrosters. So had to drive the whole way home that way. Then the next day after having messed with it and read the manual to know how to work this fancy new i-drive, and it just magically started working fine. Then yesterday it just went back to only working thru the defrost even if all of the settings were right in i-drive. Also inbetween all of this the i-drive does not come on and if it does it works a few mins then reboots, and come back on then freezes up etc.... needless to say im kicking myself for the trade I made now and im not too happy. Love the X5 but not these troubles.....
ANY help would be appreciated because I have no money to take it in.....

We have had the "aircon won't blow through the dash vents" problem twice now. The first time it was water in the plenum shorting out a motor that opens the door to the vents. The second time it was the IHKA module gone bad. Both were spendy repairs. Both times the problem was intermittent - one trip the system was fine, the next defroster only. No idea about the iDrive issue.

When you had trouble's with the AC blowing through the defrosters you didn't have any problems either time with the i-drive screwwing up and shutting off and rebooting

No, the iDrive was fine. And like you, I could tell iDrive to use the front dash vents. It would just ignore me. And get used to it. The X5 is not particularly reliable. Fun to drive sure. Reliable, not so much.

Depends how much you want to trouble shoot this ....
Idrive talks to the climate system (ihka high) over can bus messages. It's possible that either The idrive ccc is faulty regardless of the climate system. You could easily unplug the climate system from can and see if idrive goes through a reboot. If it doesn't you've isolated that the climate system is at fault. If idrive continues to reboot you're CCC might be ready for replacement. |

CCC iDrive refers to the older iDrive system installed on MY2007-MY2009 E70 vehicles. The system installed on MY2010-current is known as CIC iDrive. The CIC iDrive can be destignuished by the controller, which has buttons surrounding it, while the CCC iDrive controller is only a silver nob.
