Help - Sales people are not helpful
I am looking for a lower mileage X5. 2006 - 2009 depending on budget. I am trying to find out the dimensions behind the second seat (luggage area). No one or web searching helps. Do not want cu. ft.
I am looking at the 4.4 as I will be pulling a boat and the 3.0 seems a little small. Cannot afford a 35. Anyone have one to sell for a good price? Looking at either model, can anyone fill me in with the primary differences between the models. thks in advance Last edited by Thomv; 07-31-2012 at 09:59 AM. |

Perhaps I'm missing them but I didn't see any edits which would clarify what you're looking for.

I am looking at either model as I have not been able to find out the differences. A larger luggage area would be better. Other than that, budget will rule.

I believe the E70 (2007 - current) will have the larger luggage area as it is is physically larger than the E53 (2000 - 2006). It sounds as if you have a specific need so my suggestion would be to look at both and see which one can handle the cargo you need to carry.

Stay away from the 4.4 - the peripherals are a disaster on that engine.

I have to disagree. I owned a 2000 (85K mileage) and 2001 (126K mileage) 4.4 and had few problems with either of them.

Luggage area is because we often travel with another couple, either skiing, towing a boat or bikes. Just makes sense that a larger luggage area is be beneficial.

I'm not sure they're significantly different. You mentioned you're not looking for cubic feet...are you asking someone to provide two dimensional measurements of the cargo space?

Yes, width and depth. Cannot find a sales person to give me the measurements to compare against my existing 4Runner.

I'll measure it when I get home in about 30 minutes.

40" depth x 43" width. This is a 2007 with 3rd row seating. The 2nd row seats can be adjusted slightly in this model. Measurement was taken with the seats in about the center position. If you needed a little bit extra space moving them forward would gain about an inch or so.

thks - Have you had any issues with your 07. I had a mechanic tell me to stay away from the 07 & 08's. What motor do you have?

Just taking a quick look seems to indicate you will have more room in your 4-runner than the X5. Another one to think about is the XC90 which has a very usable 3rd row, as well as more room (with and without seats folded) than the X5. Lots of choices out there -- check them out.

I have the 4.8L engine and it's fairly nicely equipped. Other than the leak no issues with it. The mechanics advice may be the "Do not buy the first year of a model year" as they tend to have more issues than subsequent years. I'm very pleased with mine and would buy another 2007 - 2008 without hesitation. |
