E85 z4 (whistle) noise from in the cab

Ok. I've been putting this off for too long. I didn't want to ask for help just for the simple fact that I can't explain the noise!! It's going to drive me insane. With the engine on, radio and air off, I will sometimes hear a sort of whistle for a second or two and sometimes longer then it goes away. I've tried stepping on the brakes and turning the wheel. Nothing. Almost sounds like a transmission pump priming but I don't have the smg. Automatic trans with teptronic. Any thoughts on what this could be??

Does it happen only under partial throttle?

No. It's completely spontaneous. My throttle does whistle though. But I like that whistle lol.

For the throttle whistle, check your intake boot for tears. I had a slight vacuum leak that caused whistle under partial throttle. I can't help you on the random whistle. Is it rpm or speed related?

I have noticed a whining noise inside my cockpit with the top up and engine running....airconditioning not on, radio not on, lights out...just the engine running. Cannot pin point it...but I have to be paying attention and listening for it... I wear hearing aids in both ears, so it becomes irritating after a while, but I only hear it after the engine has been running for about a half hour...maybe it is the cooling fan?

To me, it is a whining noise, not a whistle. Perhaps it is the same?!

Perhaps. I've noticed now everytime I start the vehicle it will make the noise. And then make the noise periodically while driving the car. It's starting to make the noise more often. I'm going to check the vacuum lines going to the master cylinder and go from there.
