I saw someone post about an absolute slamming deal on a 7AH. Something like $600-700/month for a $100K+ car.

Why do you think there's no active cruise? Or active steering?

I just read that the 2013 750 will have 440 hp and 480 ft lbs so this may trickle down to the 550.

Doubt it.

well, first 650, now 750 ... X5 50 would be next for 2014 total re-design, after 550 face lift. I say very likely.

Hey, no worries. The empirical evidence is the in the material properties, which are very well known. To be clear, the crank isn't weak, per se - it is brittle. The term brittle applies to the ability of the material to exhibit elastic (as opposed to plastic - elastic means it returns to its original form, plastic means it stays deformed) deformation, without a structural failure (i.e. cracking or breaking).

Depending on the alloy, a forged steel material will exhibit greater elastic properties, meaning that it can absorb higher momentary loads without failure. Cast iron, given the same cross-section, will fail under the same higher momentary loads.

So, the tuners now have a challenge - they must determine the maximum load that the crankshaft can take, minus some margin that takes into account fatigue over the lifespan of the engine and materials inconsistencies inherent in the fabrication process (i.e., some will fail at lower loads, and some will withstand higher loads).

Obviously, brittle is a relative term. Still, it applies in this case.

In May, I ordered the first 2013 5 series to be delivered to the U.S (550i X Drive). I was informed yesterday that it arrived in Baltimore, and should be delivered this week. The V8 version has a power boost to 445 hp and the torque is increased by 30 ft. lbs. There is also a new multifunction instrument panel. I opted for the new Bang Olufsen sound system, 16 speakers, 1100 watts. There are no body style changes over the 2012.

^^ Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you were given incorrect information about your 2013 F10 550xi.

1) No power boost for 2013 550's Only for 550GT.
2) No new multifunction display. That isn't available in europe until september build F10s and no word about that being released for North America at all at this point. Speculation seems to indicate the power bump for the 550 (non GT) and multi function display won't happen until the 2014 LCI facelift model for NA.

Thanks alot Alan! If you are correct, I guess the dealer will eat this order! I was told by the salesperson that all 5,6,and 7 series with V-8s will get the power boost starting with July production! Interestingly, Kurt Ernst of Motor Authority stated this as well in a June 25 2012 article. I was also told that the multifuntion instrument panel WAS available as an option. (I didn't order that anyway). I am getting back with the dealer tomorrow, do you have any from BMW regarding the "power boost"?

Follow this thread.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...=631070&page=7

Lots of questions in the beginning part of this thread but the last two pages confirms a few things. Nothing official from BMW which is ridiculous keeping customers in the dark but i suspect they are doing that to try to salvage the 2012 model cars sitting on the dealer lots. When i looked up the 550xi ordering list that my dealer showed me next to the engine code it said N63 for the 2013 F10 while the new higher horsepower motor code should be N63TU.

The biggest thing for 2013 is that for all NA cars we are getting the new navigation system which includes brand new hardware and much improved interface.

Alan

If you do a vin search, just look at the power rating....640 and 535 engine codes are identical. When you check the vin, the 640 shows "N55" only, but has a higher power rating than the 535. Maybe 550 is the same way.

No it isn't. The 640 and 535 have same engine with different programming. The N63TU has twin scroll supercharges whereas the N63 has single scroll. Different engines not just programming.

The TU also has Valvetronic. Not a small change.

Yes that's going to be interesting. The M5 also has valvetronic and it seems to work well on that.
