Bavarian Technic tool came

A new "toy" came last week. The Bavarian Technic tool is really slick. I hooked it up and it quickly sees everything a dealer mechanic can look at from the car computers. Not just trouble codes but you can see the real time data from sensors and you can cycle actuators to see if they work. I hate taking a car to a dealer and getting hit with big costs to read codes, I really like to know what is going on. All the new cars have complex control systems like BMW and on one of my other cars we paid big money to have a mechanic change parts and never really fix the car. It would be cool to be able to get something like this tool for other cars without paying for a profesional tool. It just pisses me off paying a hour shop time for a 10 minute job reading the codes on a car.
With 2 5 year old 335's in the garage this will save me $$$ with just being able to reset the service codes.

Though they can't read BMW specific codes, any of the auto parts stores in my area let you use their reader for free.

In fact for a non-BMW basic tool, you can grab a reader for about $20 on amazon.

Those readers are pretty useless for the BMW owner, because most of the codes of interest are BMW specific. And, the BT tool lets you do way more with regard to reseting codes and altering features etc. For example, you can "register" your battery with the BT Tool.

the bav technic will go far beyond anything an OBDII reader can. for example, if you were to throw a tuner code with your JB+, the OBDII reader would show nothing whereas the bav technic cable would be able to read and clear the code.

fuel pump going? bmw specific codes.
DSC issue? bmw specific codes
engine malfunction, reduced power? again, bmw specific codes.

OBD II will only return info for issues that specifically trip the service engine soon light, nothing more as thats all thats require.
