Fuel Tank Breather Fault

In the shop. Dealer saying CEL fault attributed to fuel tank breather. Wondering if anyone here has any experience with this. Forum search came up with very little.

Any chance the gas cap wasnt properly tightened?

It's criminal, but out of warranty some dealers will book the car in for "CEL Diagnostics", run an evap emissions test, come up with nothing- and THEN tell you 'might have been the gas cap'...$200 later.

Just saying...an actual hard code is what you want next time.

Thanks, Ard, but this is a 2012 and gas cap was the first thing I thought of. Checked and rechecked.

Told the rep I wanted full paper accounting of fault codes, diagnosis and remedy. We'll see. Haven't seen mention of this issue on Bimmerfest so thought I would ask. Dealer has been good to me so patiently waiting for now.
