BMW Replacing My X5
Six weeks ago i told you all that my dealer was changing a wheel on my new 2013 X5 with 2800 miles on it when the tech went to test drive it after he alligned the wheels... that's when the motor shutdown on him. To make a long story short... they now say the engins spun a main bearing... that's it... now BMW is replacing the vehicle... but I am now sold on the 750 series that i've been driving for the past six weeks... they put me in a nice car to ease the pain... now it's costing me 30k more to buy a 750.... good for me... but what's up with spinning a main bearing after 2800 miles?

What does that even mean?

Why not just save the 30 thous. and get another X5. I don't know that what happened to your X5 is a common occurrence.

If you can now give up the cargo space of an X5 for a 750, why did you get an X5 ti begin with over a sedan? Odd choice. I like both, but couldn't trade mine for a sedan.

After six weeks in the sedan... i loved the handling versus the X5... i found that the cargo space in the backseat was not an issue... kids had a lot of leg room... it's all wheel drive... has style... and the trunk is rather large too... time for a change... have had several trucks and would have been fine if my X5 had not crapped out... but I assure you i will enjoy the 750....

No doubt the 750ix is great and functional, as you note, but the kids and dog on a weekend trip necessitate the X5 for me.
Now for a weekend play three pedal... |

Those two are very different animals...surprised you didn't do more diligence/research before purchasing a $65K vehicle. I am glad it ultimately all worked out for you though.

Sometimes you don't even think something would be a good fit until you try it. I bet if he had driven both back to back on a test drive, he would have stayed the course with the X5. Sometimes you need more than a sit and drive.

I loved my 7 series -- but it was an electronic nightmare. I hope the new ones have moved beyond that now. It was one of the most comfortable and well sorted (ride-wise) cars I have ever owned. Good luck and enjoy the ride! As far as spinning the main bearing, it was probably a piece of junk from the manufacturing process blocked an oil passage, or the oil pump failed. Glad they caught it and it didn't happen to you and your family on some dark road in a storm!
