![]() Another forgotten gem: The 1969 Camaro ZL-1.....all-aluminum 427 cubic inch engine, 12.5:1 compression, hot solid-lifter cam, big-ass Holley double-pumper carb, conservatively under-rated by the factory at 430 HP (but on the dyno, they put down 560-580 HP). They only built 69 of them, and they command a pretty good price on the open market. Saw one (owned by baseball legend Reggie Jackson) sell for $300,000 a few years back. Nice cars....

I'm thinking more Evora GTE. Sort of like a superbike with a roof on it.
One of my very first memories is of standing on the front seat of my dads Triumph '58 TR3A so I could see over the windshield as we drove up the GSP. I was almost born on the front seat of that car so that sort of explains my affinity for small, lightweight cars. Kind of why I settled on an E46 touring after driving almost every euro-wagon I could find in my price range.

BMW *used* to do it....my first one (`76 530i) had a 3.64 LSD in it, which definitely contributed to it`s rapid acceleration and fun factor.

2013 Boss 302. 30 years from now, these will be worth big bucks. Most of the safety features you need, while still being able to outrun 99% of the cars on the road.

Funny thing about those Street Hemis....they ran great *when their tuning was 100% spot on*, but on a "just average" day, the 440 Magnums (especially the Six-Pack version) would walk them with regularity....

That's EXACTLY why my father opted for the 383 Magnum when he bought our Roadrunner in 1969. I always asked why he didn't get the Hemi and he said that the car was his transportation and he just started a family (I was a year old at the time). The Hemi required a lot of tinkering to keep it running correctly, the 383 did not. He didn't have the time to spend playing with it on the weekends. He swapped out the stock 400 cfm Carter for a 650 cfm Holley (vacuum secondaries) and eventually an aluminum intake and electronic ignition and that was it for that motor. The car was dialed in! Suprised a couple 440's in my day. Actually, the only car I lost to was a 340 Dart (guy said it had worked heads and a different cam).

My uncle was a Mopar man, he had a `63 (or `64 ?) Dodge 4-door that he had special-ordered, it had the 413 Wedge motor, pushbutton Torqueflite trans, and 3.55 Suregrip rear. For the most part, he was a fairly conservative family guy, but he loved that hotrod Dodge...

Althought it was not the absolute fastest (in a straight line), I always liked the 70 Challenger RT 340. The 340 was much lighter than the big block 440s and 426s and sat further back in the engine bay, making for a much lighter and better balanced car. The 340 was very much a "RPM motor" and wound out to 6000+ RPM and made a very nice sound. Of course, the fact that I had one may be influencing me some.... It was really one of the sweetest driving cars I've had; just enough power to be interesting but also some of the best handling of the day. I surprised a number of people who thought they had real "sports cars", and not just on the straights. The brakes were configured to stop the big block engined cars, so the 340 equipped car had some of the best brakes of the day. The 60 series tires (fattest available in those days) didn't hurt either. It was the car featured in the movie "Vanishing Point" and was chosen by C&D's Brock Yates & company in their run at the real Cannonball race.

Plus why even a 993 C2 convertible, at least pick the turbo or GT2. Last edited by av98; 08-18-2012 at 10:40 PM. |

Or maybe 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner, or 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle. (if i had tons of money and big garage i would collect many many many...)
Always liked looks of 3rd gen Camaro very much but it's after 1980. Somehow i never was big fan of FoMoCo. |

I had a '67 Barracuda Convertible, 273, auto. I wouldn't call it a muscle car, but if I could buy one brand new today I would in a heartbeat. I always loved the looks of the early Barracudas.

66 or 67 Chevelle SS. I've passed up several chances to buy one, and always end up kicking myself, but I can always find something that wasn't done the way I want. I will have one someday...
67 Camaro - not picky on the package, but I saw a 427, in light blue with white leather, convertible, in a storage shed when I was in my late teens, and have jonesed for that car since. Yes, I realize what a Yenko vert like that would be worth... In restrospect, I have no way to know if it was a real Yenko, or just a converted SS, but it was a 67 and it did have the 427 under the hood with the fender emblems to match. 65 GTO with the tri-power and over/under headlights

Guess I'll revise my picks since my initial pics were race cars.
1) 1970 Plymouth Superbird, 426 Hemi V8, 4 spd manual- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Superbird 2) 1971 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, 455 HO 7L V8, 4 spd manual- http://www.highperformancepontiac.co...d/viewall.html

I think I would want my 66 Chevelle back, it may not have been the fastest in the late 70s, but I had plenty of fun in it doing really stupid things. Today we have autocross and track days, back then not so much. As a teenager who spent every dime on the car until Laura... So if money is not an object, I would have to buy a home that would support all the things required to completly overhaul my car and a place to keep it all in. 4 bedroom house with a 9 car garage, nothing too big and all the time to do it. Well it's a start.
