Can OEM DVD nav use Navtech CDs?

Can the OEM DVD navigation brain read both Navtech CDs? I'm wondering if I can just buy a Navtech CD for my particular region rather than buying the more expensive DVD that contains the whole country.

I think so... I think when the DVD Nav equipped cars first shipped, they shipped with CDs since the DVDs weren't ready yet. But definitely corroborate this before putting money on it.

Yes. When the first MK IV's were delivered, the DVD wasn't ready yet, so customers got the local region CD. This was a pain for me, as I regularly commute between 3 of the CD map regions when I visit Amanda.

But the DVD map reads faster, and if you ever drive between regions you'll appreciate not having to swap discs (or be limited to only major roads).
