Is there anybody coming from va or dc?

I'm coming from Northern VA. Is there a caravan?

Last year the caravan to Bimmerfest was:

Meetup at Toys R Us Rockville by 6:30 am
Departure from Toys R Us Rockville: 6:45 am

Stop 1: Ikea of College Park.
Arrival 7:15 am
Departure 7:30 am

Stop 2: White Marsh Mall (Ikea of Baltimore). White Marsh, MD
Arrival 8:30 am
Departure 8:45 am

Destination: Ripken Stadium, Aberdeen, MD by 9:15 AM
Arrival 9:10 am

Do people want to do the same?

The one comment I would make about these convoys is that if they get large it can be difficult to stick together. What happens is that the cars at the end of the pack have to drive a lot faster to catch back up and tighten up the convoy. It is helpful for the leader to set the speed at the speed limit until the group gets back together on the freeway so the people at the end don't have to drive ridiculously over the speed limit to catch up (and even then if the leader keeps it only a few mph over it is easier for the group to stick together). This was a problem last year. Not trying to be a granny driver, I just want to keep this thing safe.

+1 Good point - last year - Maryland State Police were out in force and my impression was that they appeared to target convoys for special attention.

That sounds like a cool plan. I think a group from ga is coming up to. So maybe we could meet up with them too if people want to

I heard of convoys using two way radios. Everyone buys one and stays on a certain channel for updates on location, driving conditions, and other updates.

Welcome to the world of caravans. I'm willing to meet up with a relatively large caravan. I was part of this caravan in San Diego last year and it's gotten so good that they get police escorts towards the end. When the cops figure out the time a caravan passes they get set and what they immediately look for (just like Cali) is that front plate. A nice leader with the bimmers trailing at a nice speed is usually trouble free (zebras sticking to the same pace). When one wants to race the little 350Z that wants to show out the bimmers, that's when trouble usually begin. 2-way radios with a few radar/laser detectors (though illegal)keep eveyone calm. Not saying i'm setting this up, but I wouldnt mind rolling with a caravan because it's just not as fun going alone.

This was an AWESOME caravan!

Also about the schedule it doesn't open til 10 so should we bump it down an hour?

So what's the official word? Are we meeting anywhere before driving to Rockville. I'm in Manassas

I was wondering too. Lol I'm not sure I wanna get up at 3 to make it to toys r us by 630.

I'm down to meet up in VA somewhere with some people. Going to be a long day anyways because I'm driving to the beach after so I don't care what time we meet up.

I would like to join too. I'll be down to meet somewhere , I'm flying solo this year so it would be cool to meet others

Well there are two different things going on.

1. Leaving from Tysons to go up to Hunt Valley to meet up with their Cars and Coffee group.
UPDATE::: We are going to meetup with the Hunt Valley Cars and Coffee group to roll up to Bimmerfest. They are leaving at 9 am sharp. We should leave Tysons by no later then 7:20 as it takes a good 1 hour and 15 minutes to and hour and a half to get to Hunt Valley.

2. Leaving from Tysons and meeting up with the BIG group at either College Park Ikea and then to White Marsh, or just meet them at White Marsh. Takes about 30 mins to get there so if we leave by 6:45 am we should arrive in time.
Itinerary:
0720 - Driver's Meeting (position camera cars, establish radio frequency, etc.) - Details will be posted ASAP, before departing CP Ikea.
0730 - Depart College Park Ikea. Road captains have strict instructions to leave on time, without question. If you are not here by then, make your way to White Marsh.
0820 - Arrive at White Marsh Ikea.
0830 - Depart White Marsh Ikea. Road captains have strict instructions to leave on time, without question. If you are not here by then, make your way directly to Bimmerfest East.
0900 - Arrive at Bimmerfest East.

A camera car and two escorts will be sent up to the Maryland Rest area on I-95 between DC and Baltimore where it will wait for the caravan to show up. Since they are taking pictures and recording the event, they have priority. Give them access to the road as they request it. The road captains will lead us through the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. Although some off us don't have Easy Tags, so all of us will go through the right most bore to keep us together. If you get separated at the toll booth, take your time, radio ahead, and rendezvous in White Marsh Ikea. Once we arrive there, we will wait for everyone to assemble. Once gathered, we will depart again. Estimated time of arrival at Cal Ripken Stadium is about 9:00-9:15 am.


I was going to see if people that didnt want to go to Hunt Valley wanted to caravan from Tysons to White Marsh or College Park.

I am willing to leave with people from Tysons 2 at 6:45 as I was going to College Park Ikea to began with.

I'm willing to do tysons 2. The bigger group the more fun. Hey also this is my first caravan, i've seen people talking about getting a 2 way radio. Any recommendation which one to buy?

I'm leaving Chesapeake around 2:45 in the morning so I can be at Tysons Corner by 6.
I'll probably be making that trip alone, but to meet up with you guys will be an honor.
Nothing like a caravan entrance to the show!
