Oil Level

I changed my oil today and decided to put in 6 qts. just to see how it would register on the oil level display. It registered full, I then added the other .9 quart and it still read full. No confidence in this system.

Did you warm up the engine? The owner's manual for the E90 states that oil level should be checked after driving at least 6.2 miles/10 km.

PS: At 7K miles my oil level hasn't budged at all...still showing full.

My Indy puts in 7.5

My Indy puts in 7.5
It doesn't read overfull .
I noticed when the dealer filled it that it took less miles to get
to the needs some point.
Also you have to take an average of measurements to get any idea
of what its really doing.
I seems to read low on really hot days .

i thoroughly love the old school dipstick on my 335D. It takes 7.5 qts but i had to top off with another 1/2 qt after long high speed drive to Colorado (>1000 miles one way). This was 4000 miles into the current oil change cycle. I did my own in between change in the middle of the dealer no cost changes. Cost me about $75 in parts.
