BMW Group Petuelring 130 D-80809 Munich Germany Greetings BMW et-al, Re: http://www.fastcompany.com/1840149/d...general-motors If plans for your BMW future technology platform dictates that I purchase an Apple product so BMW can implement SIRI voice tech, Eyes Free Tech you will forever loose, discriminate, alienate new customer base such as me, my associates, and friends who all use Android platform phones and tablet based Consumer Electronics product(s). It makes no sense to choose an automotive brand or automotive platform secondary to functions based on a manufacturers primary platform of smartphone. I have owned or leased four 7er products from 1988 to 2012. I will not even consider another BMW product if I cannot use with full implementation as designed into a BMW car a Samsung or HTC smartphone that runs on an Android platform in the same manner with 100% functionality as BMW technology platform(s) bias to Apple based SIRI, Eyes Free Tech. BMW choose your new, potential and existing customers wisely, clearly you are headed down the wrong road, your global positioning requires recalculation. Or, more to the point, I think BMW knows how many cradles they are selling for each variety of phone, and I suspect iPhone is number one. That said, it shouldn't be impossible for them to support alternative voice integration, provided the API's are universal and easy to implement. Problem with Android is there are so many versions of the phones/OS's, it would be a nightmare to support. iOS is far simpler in this regard, and just works.

You haven't had a problem with lack of Smartphone voice integration in the last 20+ years, but now it's a problem? Of course it makes more sense to change the car brand than the phone if it bothers you that much...
You obviously love the 7 Series. But I think you love the Android even more

From press release; BMW Apps go Android/Expanding to include Android. From July 2013, smartphones powered by Android platform will also be able to benefit from application-based integration. With a market share of more than 50 per cent, Android has become the most prevalent smartphone operating system. The BMW Group is therefore vigorously driving forward development in this area. By extending application-based smartphone integration to Android users as well, BMW now covers the bulk of the smartphone market and is opening up BMW apps to an even wider community. The first concrete results are currently taking shape. The BMW Group specifically chose Samsung as its pilot partner for Android integration. The company is the world market leader across all mobile phone segments, including Android powered smartphones, making it an obvious choice for the BMW Group to join forces with Samsung for the launch of the app-based integration of Android. Android integration will be gradually rolled out to include further manufacturers. The BMW Group is once more highlighting its leadership claim for in-car smartphone integration. |

Smart move by BMW going direct with Nuance.
Apple's SIRI integration with car companies, in trying to create new business models within the auto sector and voice control begins to fail. BMW dodged a future bullet and loss in revenue, litigation or other black eye, smart move BMW.
