Central Locking System Locking Malfunction and Rear Cargo Door

My wife's X5 central locking system began to work intermittently and then totally failed. At first I thought it was a key problem, but the backup key did not work as well. I then went to look at the fuse box, located the proper fuse and found it to be intact. I replaced the fuse and then attempted to lock the doors. Everything worked. I put the door back on in the cargo compartment, closed everything up and then the system was once again inoperable. Long story short, if the upper cargo door is pulled down more than 6 inches (remaining almost completely open), the central locking system does not work. If the door is lowered below this point or closed the locking system does not function. Is something being shorted or being dislodged? I really don't want to start taking things apart until I have a better understanding about what might be happening. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

Not sure if your problem might be similar to mine but here it goes.

My 2002 X5 3.0D has the following issues, boot won't open (makes the unlock noice but doesn't actually open), auto lock function when you start driving does not work, also on the central locking it seems very sluggish.

I had my car at a BMW service centre and there is a computer box that aparently manages all central locking functions and also the boot lock. Part Number # B 61 35 9 117 102 Description # Basic Module.

I was quotes R6000 for this unit and aparently it has to be ordered on your chassis number. I went to a BMW scrap Yard and found 3 of these computers. The problem is that the hardware and software versions aparently has to match if you want to use a second hand one. Unfortunately non of these matched my computer.

Not sure if the issue is the same as yours but perhaps it points to the same faulty component.

Central Locking Computer System

Thanks for the response. I took the frame off from around the door and traced all the wires that track along the hatch. They appeared to be all intact. I gently moved the wires and again had no luck in activating the locking system when the door is closed. Again, I believe (maybe incorrectly) that there is a sensor for the door position for when I close the door 1 inch the locking system doesn't work (at the same time at this position a light on the left side of the tailgate that had been off, illuminates). I have pulled the fuse and this should have rebooted any electronics in the central locking system. At this point, I am taking the vehicle in to my mechanic to let him have some fun.
